I always thought that eating at any Japanese restaurant would be fair value, good quality tasty food. I was wrong.
A service charge of 380 Yen was added for each person at the table. Why? Because without asking us and not telling us, the oden they brought which we thought was free/no charge was actually 380 Yen. Totally smells of rip-off shananigans that I never knew even existed in Japan. The oden itself...not any tastier than what I would find at an AZ or APA business hotel buffet.
Signature Crispy Chicken leg. God it was tough and rubbery. I didn't think it was possible to even grill chicken to get that type of texture. They provide a pair of scissors to 'cut' the chicken meat off the bones. I had to cut it down to small bite sizes when I realized how tough it was and was seriously afraid I could choke on the rubbery meat accidentally. Seriously I didn't think it was chicken but perhaps some fowl like duck as I just couldn't understand how rubbery the meat was. Taste wise, loaded with salt and pepper. Nothing great to write home about with that dish.
Signature sliced beef dish. A4 beef? Ha ha! Yeah right more like North American chuck roast beef. The beef came sliced and every single piece was chewy and though. I get massively better results grilling Costco Sirloin beef, sprinkle seasoning salt , cooking it to medium rare and slicing it. This Izakaya's attempt at a beef dish was dismal. If the dish was good, I could support the 1220 Yen amount.
The only dishes that was good was Tofu with ginger, green onions and soy sauce. Also the edamame. But those are super simple to make and doesn't require a chef's hand. The tofu...it was obvious that they popped it out of a plastic container... The type of plastic container tofu you would find at 7-11, Lawson, or Family Mart.
Stay away from this restaurant! Food quality is lower than anything I've had here in the 6 weeks I've been traveling on Shikoku. And that 'service charge'... it's underhanded. You've...

ย ย ย Read moreFood quality is only so and so. I tried its nama beer, veg salad, sanuki beef cuts, roasted chicken thigh (so called bone attached roasted chicken), and a bowl of rice. Its sanuki beef steak cuts, priced at Yen1,100, is totally not justified. Frankly, the beef at Yoshinoya is much better and cheaper. The roasted chicken thigh, priced at Yen880, is cheap, but salty and hard to eat. The salad is OK. The rice quality is good. Generally, quality of Japanese rice is excellent and wins over other...
