Kikyou-ya — Restaurant in Takayama

A Ramen that warms your heart in a chilly rainy day.

After trying to get to four different places we thought we're just out of luck until we got here.

A sweet old couple welcomed us in and guided us into their little corner of the world.

They spoke enough English to help us settle and we ordered. A younger guy came from the back and helped prepare the order with the older gentleman and all three of them said thank you in unison.

The Ramen was delicious. Great broth. Lots of meat and tasty noodles. We ordered the large portions which were definitely quite large. Now we know better. Very cozy place. Close to the busy street but once you step in you take a break from the daily noise.

An unforgettable experience. Would love to come back...

A cute and small ramen place / owned by an older lady and man, I think they are husband and wife!

The ramen here is so fresh! It’s located on a side alley so it’s not on the main road. There is minimal crowds here and and ramen broth is so light and flavorful! Not even salty or heavy! Ramen prices here are also very reasonable! This is where the locals eat I’m pretty sure! It’s way less touristy in this restaurant as well.

Found this little shop on our last day in Takayama. The shop is owned by an old couple who nicely welcome locals and tourists in the area. Their ramen bowls are light but delicious. Meat was also tender and had a unique smoky flavor. You may choose the chashu ramen which has more meat slices (in the photo) vs the regular one .
