Ryokutei — Restaurant in Takayama

This place is a gem. There is parking, and plenty of space for big parties.

The lunch is excellent. The kids' obento is the best I've seen: 2 tempura, hamburg, udon, onigiri, miso soup, orange juice, and assorted fruit (grape, pineapple, kiwi, and wedge of melon). We also ordered the monthly lunch and it was so much food. Each dish was beautiful and tasty.

Hida has been flooded with tourists, and so many restaurants are full or charging very high prices for mediocre food. Ryokutei is such a good find. I recommend it...

Normal Japanese cuisine, slow service, no offense to the staff, they were busy to covering too many tables…or maybe we had too high expectations Update after breakfast, the experience was even worse, maybe we don’t speak Japanese, all the staff are taking care more of the local customers or the western…one staff left our rice and soup run to other table…didn’t come back more than 5mins, which is kind of disappointing…no welcome no goodbye…I changed...

The staff ignored us and after insisting while speaking japanese the staff said that is reservation only, gave us a paper about it and ignored us.

No proper explanation or anything. Service starts and the entrance and it was really rude.
