FOREIGNERS DO NOT COME HERE
Do you want to overpay for the most mid quality fish and be treated as if the staff is upset you even walked in the door? Then look no further.
This place has either recognized that they need to overcharge foreigners (they have a full English menu) or they are simply don't care to overcharge for garbage quality fish (particularly in terms of Japanese cuisine)
I took the approach of omakase style (they serve you what they want). Not only was I basically given the same "assorted fish" plate they sell but it was definitely overpriced. For reference: the "assorted" platter contains about 15 pieces all together and is priced (5000 Yen ~ 30 USD) and I was served just about the same thing. Now, in addition I ordered 5 pieces of Otoro (which is the best part of tuna and most expensive due to the quality) and not only did it not taste fresh but it was about $4 USD per piece - which I know sounds reasonable but not for Japan pricing.
In total I had approx. 21-23 pieces - and a soup which I was not sure if was part of the charge (at this place the nigiri is by the single, not a pair as you might expect), 1 bottle of Mio sparkling sake (which is not expensive in the US even with the restaurant markup), and three draft beers. My bill was $97 USD which for the quality and being in Japan is absolutely OBSCENE.
Japanese sushi spots take pride in the quality of fish that they provide their customers. This place seems to be running on fumes or they simply don't care what they are selling. Have you ever been to a strip mall sushi restaurant? That is the quality you can expect here.
The staff - and I went on a Saturday right after they opened - was extremely unfriendly and made me feel as though they did not even want me there. The level of service expected at any Japanese restaurant was completely not there and it felt like they were upset they have to deal with foreigners in the first place. I am learning Japanese so I will say that at least in that respect they were ok to let me practice what I knew but unlike most places and staff that are grateful you are even trying, this place was condescending.
Has to be noted that I was there 5pm-7pm and no other patrons came in. Being the only one there and spending as much money as I was, you would expect better and more welcoming service.
Overall do not listen to the reviews that tell you it's fairly priced or that it is good. This place is a strip mall sushi location surviving on the fact that it exists in Japan. Do...
Read moreOutstanding sushi for a fair price. Slightly more expensive per piece than conveyer belt sushi restaurant, but much better in preparation and presentation. Rice was well prepared with the right amount of vinegar to add to each bite, but not so much to overpower. Wasabi used on each roll added the right amount of flavor and slight sweetness without bitterness and without overpowering the dish. Fish was, of course, better than expected for the price paid. Try the 5 piece tuna sampler if you go. The torched otoro was one of the best things I’ve eaten all year. I don’t understand why this place is only a 3.8. Maybe if they charged more there would be a halo effect. And yes, they were very accommodating to all guests, even those working on their 日本語.
