We don't write many reviews but can't help it for this one. We had a horrible dining experience here. We wanted to enjoy a honeymoon meal, and mentioned this in the reservation to let them know the special occasion, but the hostess was as cold to us as the space -- no music, awkward seating, only one other dude there who was actually watching cooking videos the whole time, perhaps uninterested in what was happening before us. It felt like a mausoleum in which one wakes up alive.
The chef's knives were obviously dull, which caused him to have to tear more than cut the fish, which wasn't fresh. It was all kept in the same tupperware, in vague islands of wet-looking pulp, the flavors bleeding together in the general leakage. For one piece (can't remember which, they were all so unmemorable), he left the skin on partly in ragged patches, a detail I hoped was inventive but was just sloppy. Hygiene was sorely lacking - he seemed to use just one towel all night, and used it for everything, from wiping off his work space to wiping his dull knives, occasionally rinsing and wringing it out in the sink.
The plates were served without any explanation, just what the fish was, with no sense of narrative or care. The rice was overdone and oversalted, and formed so sloppily that the sashimi fell apart before it could reach one's mouth (unfortunately - would've been better had it not). One of the rolls was cut so sloppily because the knife was dull that the contents oozed out of either side. We thought he would find this aesthetically unpleasing enough to discard said atrocities, but, no, he served them with the messy side up, when, if I were him, I would at least have tried to hide my grave error. Indeed, it seemed as if they were cutting corners to make as much money as possible at the lowest possible expense.
There was a certain arrogance about the place, as if we were the problem, not the food. At the exorbitant price, we were only served ten plates, which maybe was a good thing, as we couldn't have stomached another. We've had better miso in those packets you find in the back of your cupboard when you're too tired to go to the grocery store. At the blessed conclusion of this terrible meal, we were told, "It's finished." What a relief that was to hear.
There are obviously incredible places in this city to eat sushi - in comparison to a meal we had on our first night here, this place felt...
Read moreAbsolutely horrible! Please do not come. Saw the good reviews but the food is absolutely not anywhere near worthy of the price. You can find much much better for 1/10 of the price.
You can find better sushi at a stand up sushi bar. Do yourself a favor and avoid at all costs! Absolutely a tourist trap. No idea how this restaurant has any good reviews at all.
Walking in, the reception was very cold - and the chef was even colder. We got no explanation for what we are eating. We had to ask several times and got a one word answer. No wonder there were no other customers! The cloth the chef used to wipe his knife was ridiculously dirty - he rinsed it under the sink and then continued using it. The ingredients were also not fresh at all. The toro had very visible discoloration on it. The outside of the toro piece was dark and oxidized. On top of all that, the rice was so salty that I could barely put it in my mouth. Am I eating sushi or drowning in the sea? We had our hopes up and wanted a good experience for our last night in Tokyo but this was the worst restaurant ever. It would’ve been better to eat at McDonald’s or 711 (at least it’s not outrageously overpriced).

Read moreWhile the food is excellent, the place is very unfriendly if you aren’t a fluent Japanese speaker. Multiple items were served to other customers ala carte, which was not an option we knew existed, and it was never offered to us. We had contacted the restaurant in advance for our reservation to make it clear that we need guidance as foreigners who don’t speak the language. For 30000 yen per person, this was not worth the treatment and feeling of isolation we experienced. The hostess topped the experience by immediately asking us to leave as soon as our course was finished, without offering the option for dessert or any other additions. This was extremely disappointing for such a highly...
