This is a friendly neighborhood restaurant that serves lunch and dinner sets as well as small dishes and alcohol. While centered on seafood, the menu also includes things like kara-age fried chicken and beef bowls. For alcohol, there are 6 or so nihonshu selections by the glass and usual beer and simple mixed drinks. They also host by-reservation nihonshu parties. I had a lunch set of stewed rockfish for 1500 yen, but the other choices were 800-1200 yen. The set included a small salad, tofu in broth, miso, rice, and the main dish. Everything was fresh and delicious -- even the rice was noticeably aromatic. My fish came whole and was flaky and not the least bit fishy. The woman at the counter was just the right amount of friendly. The place is small -- only 15 or so seats, mostly at a small counter -- and regulars dropped in but it was surprisingly not full on a Sunday noon. The lady spoke fluent English & Japanese, which is very rare in Kichijoji. We had a good conversation and it made the experience enjoyable.
The owner/chef is also experienced at cooking and has worked at a reputable overseas restaurant before. I know this as it’s in my country (Singapore!) He spoke a bit of English too.
