Abura Soba Shimbashi — Restaurant in Tokyo

First time there was absolutely great, the waiter/chef there was kind and helped us navigate how to order. I can't gush more about the food. The broth perfectly coats the excellent noodles, and the overall package is so flavorful but not overpowering. I do need to make a note that will be relevant later that all the customers were tourist (all speaking Chinese), and they all needed help with the machine and where to line up.

However, my second experience later that week there really left a sour note. We came in the mid afternoon and there was no line. We ordered as usual and, seeing how there was no one else in line, went back to the machine to add a couple of add ons. We were there for maybe a minute translating the text on our phone, when the waiter/chef there (different waiter than the first visit) suddenly shouted at us that we are taking too long and to get out. I noticed that a single Japanese customer had just joined the queue. While he was forcibly ushering us out, I think he was trying to salvage the situation a little by trying to reassure us that we were going to be seated first anyways. I was extremely bewildered, and once the Japanese customer finished with the machine, he told me "now you can use the machine." Once I was back in line for a few minutes, he came out to take our tickets while also saying, "see, we are serving you first." I want to note that since he took our tickets only after everyone was done using the machine, logistically there is no point in having the Japanese customer go first. I'm trying to not see this as a xenophobic event, but the difference in service and respect is... quite apparent. I'm sure this is a small misunderstanding, but the experience does stand out compared to how welcoming every other restaurant has...

I’ve been to many of these locations and this is the cleanest and most organzied one i’ve been to. My only issue is the machine to buy the soba is cash only. They haven’t updated to the newer digital ones other locations have. They do have a multi language menu incase you can read kanji.

I got the L size soba. They also have spicy options and various sides/add ons.

The meal is very filling. The soba is cooked perfectly and the oil they use is very tasty.

I will visit this location again. The service was 10/10. Very fast...

■ 8월말 두번째방문 리뷰 문득 기름소바가 먹고싶어 방문.

저번에 일반을 먹었기에 이번엔 매운걸로. 辛味噌油そば W盛り로 주문.

辛味噌를 받으면 외관은 일반과 비슷하나 밑에 고추기름이 깔려있다. 맵기는 신라면보다 조금더 매운데, 그리 만만한 매운맛은 아니다. 생각없이 면치기했다간 기침폭탄 맞을 수 있으니 주의.

갠적으로 여긴 辛味噌보단 일반이 낫다고 생각한다. 왜냐면 辛味噌의 경우, 기름소바에 기대하기 마련인 풍미가 그닥 많이 느껴지지 않기 때문. 매운맛이 생각보다 강해서였는진 몰라도 고추의 매운 맛이 풍미를 가리는 느낌이 있다. 그리고 일반은 먹어도 그닥 물리지 않고 소스를 이것저것 조합해가며 먹을 수 있는데, 매운건 이미 꽤 맵기 때문에 辛味나 다마네기 같은 토핑을 넣기도 뭐하고, 먹다보면 매운맛에 좀 물리는 느낌이 있다(W盛り말고 普通盛り로 시키면 이부분은 괜찮을듯)

옆에 다른 사람들보니 辛味噌에도 나오자마자 이것저것 척척 뿌려서 먹긴 하던데 뭔진 모르겠다.

그래도 근처 다른 라멘집 가면 기름소바를 1000엔이 훌쩍 넘는 가격에 파는 곳도 있던데, 천엔이 안되는 가격에 W盛り까지 동일한 가격으로 먹을수 있다는건 여전히 메리트다.

■ 7월중순 첫방문 리뷰 항상 밤늦게까지 웨이팅이 조금씩 있어서 막차시간 때문에 포기하고 갔었는데 오늘은 날이 더워서인지 대기가 없어서 잠입.

(일반)아부라소바 W盛り로 주문. W盛り는 여기서 첨 봤는데 大盛보다 큰 개념인것 같다. 하지만 그렇게 무지막지하게 많은 느낌은 아니라서, 평소에 웬만한 현지 라멘집 가서 大盛로 먹는 성인남성이라면, W盛り로 시켜도 문제없을듯. 普盛り도 880엔인데 大盛り、W盛り도 880엔의 같은 가격에 제공한다는, 것두 이 동네에서.. 코스파도 좋다.

무엇보다 가장 기본이 되는 면! 탱글탱글하고 맛있다. 잘은 모르지만 식감은 수제 면 느낌. 고기도 실하고 맛있다! 재질은 장조림고기 비슷한데 약간 단단한 감이 있지만 고기 자체의 간은 삼삼해서 적당하기에 소스랑 비벼먹으면 간은 딱 맞다. 소스도 면과 토핑 양에 딱 맞춰서 나오는 듯 한데 다 비비면 살짝 자작한 정도라 츠케멘 같이 막 짜진 않다.

라유와 玉ネギ 등도 양껏 마련되어 있어 취향껏 넣어먹으면 된다. 반 정도는 기존 간대로 먹고, 나머지 반은 개인취향대로 제조해 먹는것도 좋은듯. 특히 라유의 경우 참기름?들기름? 같은 고소한 풍미의 기름이 들어가 있어선지 좀 걸쭉한데, 뿌려먹어보면 딱 그 친숙한 맛 나서 좋다. 다만 너무 많이 넣는건 기존 맛을 많이 해치기에 한스푼 이상은 권하진 않는다.

아직 일본에서 油そば를 많이 먹어본 편은 아니어서 감칠맛을 이렇게 잘 내는 곳이 흔한건지 아닌지를 모르지만, 어쨌든 그간 먹어본 기름소바 중 가장 맛있었다.
