I was drawn into the restaurant by vegan concept and Bali linkage. Overall the food was ok, ambience was good, service was below average. It was way overpriced by Tokyo standard (or is this the norm in Azabujuban? I don’t come to the area normally but I do frequent Marunouchi). Would I come again? Maybe but that’s purely due to my love for Bali, and maybe I visited not long after its opening so the service is still catching up - let’s hope so.
Being a solo diner, I got seated at the corner of the restaurant which provides a fantastic view to the restaurant but wasn’t the easiest to call for service. There were some foreigner kitchen hand on the day I visited (today 02/12/2023) but the waiters & waitresses were Japanese with basic English capability. Menu is in English and Japanese so easy to follow but the degree of discretion/customisation may confuse customers.
After having been to Indonesia & Bali many times, certainly tempeh and sambal matah stirred up my interests so I went for the DIY salad. I was escalated from my seat to the salad bar to order and the kitchen hand waitress spoke zero English. Her colleague came to help a few times with translation and neither of them understood the menu well enough. At first they said tempeh manis was the premium toppings (with JPY300 surcharge) and I had to show them on the menu this is the standard topping. Sambal matah is also different from what I was used to in Bali - however the taste did bring back some memories so they must have done something right, so this degree of localisation is acceptable.
It was also confusing how to get cutleries. Once I finished ordering my salad bowl, I was given the bowl right away so I was very confused with what to do. A waiter prepared me cutleries from a service station - I would certainly appreciate having a spoon (with my quinoa and everything else being so fine) but it was not in sight so I couldn’t be bothered asking.
I spent JPY1800 on the salad bowl which is overpriced in my view by Japan standard. The drinks are also expensive - in the high hundreds to over one thousand yen. Smoothies are priced over one thousand yen, which by Tokyo standard normally that’s how much it costs for an entire lunch.
I hope the service catches up and matches up...
Read moreA little pricey, but all high-quality ingredients which are so rare to find in Japan are available for meals. Everything is meat, fish, dairy gluten, white sugar & chemical free according to the menu. Some dishes might make you wonder as there are ingredients like "smoked salmon" but everyone can eat all the dishes which are healthy & plantbased. It was the first time I had a jackfruit burger in Japan and it did not disappoint - nice flavors & textures. The protein bowl is very tasty, healthy & filling too to get a great supply of vitamins and minerals as well as yummy plantbased proteins. It's a little hard to work things out on the qr code menu - easy to add things as extras which are already inside the dishes, but a good English version as well as japanese with pictures. Great to read that they're using recycled glass and biodegradable paper as well as almost no single-user plastic anywhere. A lot of superfoods in pressed juices, kombucha and smoothies under the...
