Lengthy, detailed review: Worth the 30 minute subway ride from Shinjuku! The timer starts as soon as you pay and enter, whether you arrive before or your scheduled start time (I checked in at 5:20pm and was politely asked to leave at 6:23pm). Kiichan the female capybara is safely locked in her enclosure until the receptionist finishes checking in everyone and unlocks the enclosure, so you might get 50 minutes with her if people trickle in late. For those who pay an additional ¥500 upon check-in, you’re given a couple spoonfuls of canned food to feed the 10 cats, who swarm you (but are friendly). Everyone who shows up gets to give the capy one dish of lettuce, which Kiichan mows down very quickly! Then the capy is given a plate of dry pellets that takes the remaining 40-50 minutes to finish. There were at least 10 cats present; some were super playful and some slept the whole time. I booked the 5:30-6:30pm slot a week advance; I recommend reserving online even earlier as this was the only slot available for the whole week I was in Tokyo. You are given one cat toy wand to play with the cats and can help yourself to the cold and hot drinks. Would definitely come back again. ¥2200 for the hour ($17 USD). 2 minute walk from Kichijoji station, accessible with my Suica pass. Take the small elevator up to the second floor.
I recommend wearing clothes you don’t mind getting cat & capy hair on. You are given slippers to wear inside the play area but will probably still get pet hair on your socks. As others mention, there’s no room for people to wait outside, so those not booked for the cafe can spend time at the adjacent mall and...
Read moreI don’t recommend this experience. It costs us about 6100¥ (for 2 people) for 50 min of bad attitude from the staff and being cramped in a tiny space.
Definitely need some reevaluation of the crowd. There’s just too many people in one tiny space and the staff wasn’t exactly the kindest either. She was rather rude to me and my sister when we visited.
We booked the earliest session which was at 10am. It took 8 people. We were the 3rd of 4 pairs who arrived. We were excited and chirpy before the session especially when we saw the cats and capybara. But the staff was just giving us bad attitude from the start. The space was cramped and my sis accidentally placed her feet (with shoes on) into the area where no shoes are allowed - She moved out immediately of course but the staff was being unkind and started telling us off.
The session went alright.
But the staff didn’t give us the treats as part of the package and when we mentioned it to her at the end. She tossed us the plate and opened the cage for the capybara like “here take it or leave it”.
Also, towards the end of the session, we were rushed out of the store when the lift is limited in capacity.. Yes we get that there are people coming after but the lift can only fit a few people people.. Exactly how many people do you want to stuff in there?
Overall, just a bad experience and we felt like we did something wrong throughout it all when in reality looking back, the staff could have...
Read moreI had a very enjoyable experience here😊. You will need to make a reservation before coming. They need a japanese name for the booking to go through. As someone that's not japanese, I just chose a random name online. Arrival for the booking was easy and they are located on the 2nd floor.
The cats were very friendly and they don't mind when you give them pats. I've been to a more known cat cafe before and the cats there would avoid physical touch/interaction (unless you have treats). Staff were accommodating and even offered to take photos of you with the Capybara called Ki-Chan. Despite not buying treats for her, staff prepared a bowl with a small amount of food for everyone to give. Ki-Chan would sometimes do little popcorns and it was really cute.
They brought out cat toys for customers to use a couple minutes after check in. Some of the cats took interest and became very playful. Drinks are included in the booking fee. There's two mini fridges with drinks (one for hot & cold), so just help yourself if you need something to drink.
It was around $60 AUD for two people (50 mins). The price is a little higher compared to other cafes, but I personally think it's worth it for the experience and the...
