Went to visit the Mame Shiba Cafe and our ticket was for 4:30pm and as I thought, the dogs seemed tired out from all of the visitors/customers throughout the day. They really are very inactive and don't seem to care about the customers at all (I don't blame them). I understand the rules of customers not being able to pick up the dogs but seeing the staffs picking up the dogs and playing with them while all of the other customers are hoping for a chance to even get to pet one for longer than a second is pretty messed up. If you have rules, your staff should also follow them unless other wise. Although the dogs were super cute, I agree with the majority of reviewers. It isn't worth your time and money. Only being given 30 minutes with the dogs and just sitting there, admiring them as they nonchalantly ignore you isn't worth the money. My boyfriend and I didn't even need a drink, so I don't see why they even "add" that in the ticket price. There are so many people in the room and after a while they add more people in and it just gets more crowded and more difficult for you to get a chance to pet a dog. The workers get to have a great time bonding with the dogs. One of the staff was petting one of the shibas for so long in front of us customers, it was like we paid to watch rather than get to engage. Another staff member was picking up one of the dogs and walking it on it's legs and they were obviously more interested in the staff members than anyone else. Towards the end, two of the female staffs picked up a shiba of their own and was just holding them and petting them. Left feeling disappointed. Also, I agree that the dogs probably aren't being well taken care of. They are a breed of shiba and shibas require to be more active and outside. These dogs seem to be stuck in the room all day. They use toilet pads and diapers to go to the restroom so it doesn't seem like they are taken outside at all. They also looked stressed out and bored out of their minds. Again, highly wouldn't recommend this place and I would never support this kind of...
Read moreAbsolutely AWFUL experience and service. I ended up crying outside in the street after this.
It cost us 900 yen each (cash only) and each session is supposed to be 30 minutes. We lined up at 11.45am and bought a 2pm admission ticket at 12pm. Then we had to come back just before 2pm and wait again in another line to get in. We finally got let in at 2.22pm and then they kicked us out at 2.30pm saying our time was shortened because we were late. I literally had time stamped pictures of us by the front of the line at 2pm and they refused to listen when I explained that we were in the line behind people (it was extremely cramped, with a family in front of us), just said âtime to leaveâ. For those 5 minutes we were inside, we were told we had to wait in another line to get a drink from a vending machine before we could play with the dogs and by the time we sat down, the staff were telling us to leave. We didnât even have time to take a photo, just had one dog sniff at us as we waited in line to get the drink.
The dogs seemed very uninterested and the room was very cramped with many people.
Absolutely ruined my day and the entire Takeshita experience. Iâve only had great experiences at each of the animal cafes in Takeshita street and am absolutely appalled. There was no attempt to listen or understand - we didnât kick up a fuss, just tried to show them translated text on my phone but no. I spent the last of my cash on this, and am really upset at the way I was treated.
There was nowhere to put our cups, and the staff were all robotic and rude. Donât...

First of all they overlap the timings of the groups. The time slot given per visit is 30 mins and per time slot theres a group of maybe about 10 people. There will be a 10 mins overlap time between groups. So that means thereâs a 10 mins overlap time with the group before you and a 10 mins overlap time with the group after you. Which means youâre only left with a 10 mins slot where itâs only your group of about 10 pax. So interaction with the dogs is not a lot.
We realised that one of the staff was willing to help one Japanese lady bring a dog over to her. (We are not allowed to pick up the dogs.) So my wife requested for one of the staff to help as after some time, she still didnât get any interaction with any dog. To our surprise, the staff just said a âNoâ and turned her head away. We were very shocked.
Finally one dog came on to my daughterâs lap and stayed on my daughterâs lap for a while. And when the dog got off my daughterâs lap, the same staff immediately carried the dog up and never let the dog down until our slot is over. I was really disgusted by the attitude shown. Throughout the whole time, we were not rude to the staff. We smiled at them and spoke to them politely.
We left the place being very unhappy and I guess the reason why many people go to them is because they only charge 1000 yen for 30 mins where other places charges higher like 1600 yen. As a local guide, I seldom give poor reviews but this has gotta be my worst tourist experience...
