I very well avoided the shop for a long time because of the long lines and hype. They also need a big sign saying it's cashless!!! I noticed at the cash register and wasted their time because of that. If I'd known in advance, I would have topped up my cashless debit card.
Passing by the shop, I noticed this branch of the shop had a short line. A good chance, so I'd thought. After an about 10 or 15 minute wait, I was on my way with my three donuts.
I took a bite and was speechless because it was quite oily and soaked through. It's a sad excuse for a donut. I was tempted to throw it away but decided to bring it home to get a third opinion. However, I felt upset: don't waste my daily food calories! I could've had something decent, instead.
What about all these raving reviews?! Are they fake reviews or foreigners don't have good donut standards?!?!
Give me a chewy donut from a famous donut chain shop in Japan, not this oily mess. I felt that the oil was old and the donuts were probably over fried because they were waaaaay too dark.
The owner has to watch out. Nobody is doing quality control and the employees look like they're not paid enough to care.
The service wasn't bad but definitely not friendly and slightly snobby and standoffish. I mean you work at a donut shop. In snobby part of town but it doesn't mean your attitude has to be snobby. Not to mention the shop is wayyyyy overstaffed. Efficiency is not this shop's forte.
I gave a donut to someone else and they told me that the sugar coating seemed to try to hide the faulty donut. In Japanese you would say 'sato de gomakashiteiru".
My stomach is sensitive to oil. I felt the oil was not fresh and had a slight stomach ache afterwards.
We got three kind of plain flavors but two of them tasted exactly the same!!!!!! Huh?!?!?!
I rarely post anything under two stars. Usually, any shop under 2-star quality will naturally go out of business. I know the food industry is quite difficult and prices of ingredients are rising but, it's still no excuse. Usually I wouldn't even bother wasting my time to post, however, I think the owner needs to seriously address this problem, therefore I'm posting this harsh review.
Is the shop aiming to: target tourists who don't know better and feel it's cheap since the yen is low (but will never come back because they're here only temporarily...but leave glowing reviews ) -or- attract a loyal customer base? I feel the shop caters to tourists and young people who don't know better. Even if they were cheaper, I wouldn't buy them.
For those who have lived in Japan for awhile and have strict food expectations, this place doesn't cut it. Instead of expanding and having many shops why not focus on...
Read moreI lined up with my husband and two little kids for an hour. While we were waiting I took the order paper from the front desk and took time to decide what I wanted then filled in it. When it was finally our turn to order, the female clerk who took my order was very rude and asked if I actually waited in line just because I didn’t use the board they handed out to fill the paper on with(they hand them out to the ppl at the front line but I had mine filled in way earlier so I didn’t need one ). Her attitude was super disrespectful ! She didn’t even bother TRY explaining in English; and really rude asking if i wanted 7 donuts in total. Is it that hard to say “7” in English ? The donuts were pretty good but because of that rude clerk who took the order, I don’t think I’ll go back anymore. Please train your employees....
Read moreWent here instead of the branch in Harajuku in the hopes to avoid the line, but there was still a line. Came here in the afternoon around 2-3pm last Sunday and they were almost sold out. Only one flavor was available (Lemon pistachio). Honestly, I don't get the hype. Maybe it was the donut that I got, I dunno. The texture is kinda hybrid of a yeasted donut and mochi donut so there's some chew. I dunno if I want to go back to try again in the hopes of giving a more fair review, because no one wants to line up for that. It's not bad per se, it's just not as good as influencers claim it to be, but I dunno, the lines tell otherwise. I've had better donuts.
If you want to endure the heat while lining up, go ahead. This is not a sitting down place, this is only...
