12/26/2024 Sweet Check Restaurant
We arrived at 8pm, restaurant closing at 9pm. We came in as a group of 4, parents and 2 young daughters. Bear in mind that we are well traveled and have dined at some of the best Michelin restaurants in Europe. It was 8pm and we were starving after returning from a long guided Day trip from Hakone. We came across this restaurant after finding a Lawson to snack at, just in case no dining options were available. While I acknowledge the poor choice my young daughter made in bringing prepared convenience store food (ramen), I was shocked and unprepared for the following restaurant behavior! We were quickly seated at a table that was hastily cleared and “cleaned.” After sitting down and looking at the menu for a moment, a young scruffy male in his 20’s who appeared to have enjoyed a few-too-many-pork-tonkatsu cutlets water boy came to our table and loudly shouted “No!!!”for the entire restaurant to hear for the sole purpose of trying to embarrass a young teenage girl while wagging his finger aggressively. He aggressively pointed out the instant ramen she had brought in to the restaurant. I was flabbergasted at his lack of subtlety. It was hypermasculine aggressive behavior at its finest! To directly attack a young girl!!
Anyhow, seeing as to how uncomfortable we were made as customers, we were left with no choice other than to leave.
I’m not I’m not sure that I would want to dine here willingly anyhow, seeing that the floor was dirty with napkins and squishy red sauce, even after the cleaning. The water boy should be more upset at the fact his restaurant was in squalid condition for his potential customers! We left a 1000 yen note on the table for the glasses of water and their inconvenience. Water boy sneered and laughed at us on our way out the door. Classless behavior, shocking for a restaurant establishment. Well done! Ostracize your customers! There are better ways to communicate your preferences than belittle and embarrass young teenage...
Read moreI went here (last Sunday) coz I was curious from what I saw from IG stories. Not gonna lie, the IG stories made it seem like the hamburger patties were bigger, but it was a bit smaller in person. I think I was a bit disappointed when I saw the size, wish I could've ordered the two piece because of how small it was. The omurice is good, but I think that point, I've had so much omurice that I felt like omurice is kind of a fad. Hamburger patty is very juicy and tasty, it's just that the size was small. Order the two piece if you can. You can do away with the fried egg on top tbh, I think that was kind of unnecessary.
Staff were great, the guy staff (didn't get his name), he helped me with getting resolved the issue with the ordering system. The girl staff served me the food and was very enthusiastic about cutting the omellete, I feel bad for not returning the same level of enthusiasm because I was a bit tired from walking all day. She even said I still got dessert which was served after the omurice, coz I was about to leave.
The location is a bit hidden, not along the Omote-sando A4 exit, you have to go around the Family Mart, it's in the building tucked behind qu'il fait bon. Not as packed because I went for late lunch...
Read moreI loved my lunch at Sweet Check! I was worried it might be a more aesthetic forward restaurant with so-so food, but my omurice with Hamburg steak and cheese was delicious! The demi glaze sauce was plentiful and flavorful and the egg on top had a bright orange, runny yolk. Everything was fresh, not to mention had a fun presentation with the server pouring the sauce after cutting open the omelette. We also tried the curry omurice which could have had a richer umami flavor but was tasty nonetheless.
Also, their basque cheesecake was one of the best I’ve ever had! Rich, creamy, and perfect for sharing. It’s one of my favorite desserts of my Tokyo trip. I highly recommend ordering a slice or two!
Overall, this is a fun lunch spot in Aoyama. It’s tourist friendly and serves a filling meal. Note the sitting area is compact so you might be elbow to elbow with the party next to you. They have an English option for their...
