Overall, I would come back purely because of the food and the matcha latte, but as an occasional treat. Honest review below.

Pros: The food is amazing. It is expensive but very high quality. The drink prices are extortionate but again, you get what you pay for. Probably the best matcha latte I’ve ever had. It’s a New Zealand themed café and looks exactly like a café would there. I’ve been to New Zealand and the interior transported me back there.

Cons: Although the quality is very high, it’s not the kind of place most people can afford to go to on a regular basis. It was ¥880 for a matcha latte, then ¥220 on top to change the milk. I felt that was excessive. It should be free to change the milk at that price. It’s a fair walk away from the local attractions such as the museum and park. Super annoying QR code ordering system that only accepts card and PayPay. It does say you can ask about paying cash on leaving but…see next point. Staff make it clear from their body language they do not want to be engaged with. They deliberately make it difficult to ask about anything such as ingredients. Several dishes that contain bacon/ham would be vegetarian if they didn’t. My wife wanted to ask for the chilli scrambled eggs without bacon but was reluctant because of the above. They should offer “no bacon/ham” options for these dishes. The staff that brought food to our table were polite but my wife had a bad experience at the till. It was the tall guy with longer hair and a beard. The cake she wanted wasn’t on the QR code system, so she asked if she can order it to the table. The guy was quite rude and cut her off, stood in silence for a minute, then another customer appeared from a waiting area around the corner. Of course she couldn’t have known about the other customer, so the attitude was unnecessary. Finally he said he’s going to add the cake to the QR code system and can she order it there…just an unnecessary extra step and we had to pay for it again on the system. He could have easily added it to our bill.

Tip: If you pay as a ‘guest’ on the QR code system, make sure you delete your card details before you log out. It’s possible it deletes your guest info automatically when you log out, but if you...

A Taste of New Zealand in Tokyo at Iki Espresso

On our last day in Tokyo, we made time for one final café stop—and Iki Espresso was the perfect choice. Inspired by New Zealand café culture, this spot delivered a relaxing, stylish atmosphere and a brunch menu that was both creative and satisfying.

We ordered the roasted broccoli with hummus, and it was a standout dish. The portion was generous, the broccoli was perfectly charred, and the hummus was smooth and well-seasoned. Simple, healthy, and packed with flavour. The matcha hotcakes were equally impressive—fluffy, warm, and beautifully plated with just the right amount of sweetness.

The coffee here also deserves a mention. Smooth, strong, and expertly brewed, it’s clear that the baristas take their craft seriously. The café has a bright, minimalist interior with plenty of natural light, making it an ideal space to unwind, especially on a slower-paced final day.

Iki Espresso feels like a slice of New Zealand right in the heart of Tokyo. Whether you’re after a satisfying brunch or just a quality cup of coffee, this is a spot well worth visiting. We’re glad we squeezed it in before...

Service was crazy slow and half the staff have no manners. Our food took an hour. Our coffee took 25 minutes. And two already-baked muffins I brought at the counter at the same time that I order my meals and coffee, took 30 mins. We had to ask for the muffins many times on how much longer until we can get our muffin. Staff goes away and doesn't come back to inform us with the answer. We knew food would take some time(but not an hour), that's why we wanted some bake goods while the wait. Still no muffins. I went back to the counter/register myself to solve the problem and without a sorry. they took two muffins and popped them in the microwave for 20 seconds, which it didn't needed to be or did they asked if I wanted it heated up. And they just gave them to me. Coffee was average. Food was not bad but is it worth one hour wait? And we were just lucky the we got a table after 5 mins. The experience from dining there...
