I am on vacation for my 36th Birthday and have always dreamed of coming to Tokyo before i turn 40 and A Dream Came True. I was recommended this speakeasy bar by a friend who i used to work with in a Japanese hair salon(they actually know each other) in NYC and i am eternally appreciative for taking her up on it. Finding the entrance was super easy and upon entering you almost immediately felt a sense of tranquility. A small yet cute place to relax and unwind after running around in Shibuya/Shinjuku this is the perfect place to have a good night cap or even to start off the night. The owner/bartender Yuta has such an amazing talent and it really does shine thru when creating his cocktails. His time and patience he has in the process of making such cocktail’s is really something to admire. The attention to detail is un matched. I went here with my best friend and we ordered a Rose Lychee Candy Martini/Rose Lychee Strawberry Martini/Japanese Whiskey Old Fashioned. I even purchased a bottle of Early Grey Tea Sake and i got to taste test it before purchasing the actual bottle so once again Arigato Yuta San for giving me an incredible experience at your bar. One last thing…he is also super friendly and great conversationalist and is also LGBTQ friendly. If you ever visit have fun searching for the hidden bathroom and hidden smoke room thats inside the bar. 10/10 i would totally recommend visiting here. For two people i...
Read moreKakuretai is hands down the BEST speakeasy bar and my absolute favorite in Tokyo! It's a hidden gem tucked away in a Shinjuku alley. To find it, keep an eye out for steps leading down from the street to a door labeled as “ポンプ室” (Pump Room). Make a reservation beforehand via Instagram!
The bar has an exclusive vintage ambiance, with a cozy and intimate atmosphere filled with interesting decor. Yuta, the bartender, is the real deal! He’s super welcoming and knows his spirits inside and out. It was obvious that he’s an expert mixologist who’s passionate about making exceptional one-of-a-kind cocktails with premium ingredients and flavor combinations. He’s also fluent in English!
The whiskey sour I tried was outstanding. It was crafted with Yoichi whiskey and cypress bitters, which gave it a local flair. The bar is a minute's walk from Yotsuya Sanchoume Station and I would say it’s a must-stop for an amazing...
Read moreKakuretai is a newly speakeasy bar where is a hidden gem, cozy and relaxing bar in the city. I’ve never expected I could go to such a nice speakeasy bar in Japan. First of all, there’s no sign showing the name of the bar. It’s located at the basement. The door sign just says “ポンプ室(it’s like a maintenance room)” but if you walk through it, you will find a totally different world. The lighting, interior decoration, chairs and couches are all beautiful. You won’t be able to find the wash room without asking the place :)There’s owner's attention to detail and aesthetic in every little thing. The cocktails are delicious. My favorite are lavender gin tonic and strawberry margarita. Lastly the owner is extremely fun and friendly. You’ll be amazed by that vintage ambiance and playful spirit. It’s a must go place in Tokyo but I’d recommend you make reservation before...
