KONAYA Curry Udon — Restaurant in Tokyo

Located near to Sugamo Station, at one of the alley of "elderly-ginza-street", the Jizo Dori Shopping Street. The shop seems to be quite popular and usually a wait there during lunch hour and "peak season" (events/holidays). 😅

The price range is more to moderate, but considered a little high for locals compare with the usual udon shop. Maybe of its location and the image of the shop looks quite "upscale", I guess. Some said because they are targeting for foreign visitors. 🤷

They only have curry udon on their menu, but with many different types of toppings available. The taste of the curry is very creamy with a tiny bit of spicy and tend more to southeastern curry. #Not the typical Japanese curry. Totally different. 🙅

Unfortunately, the taste was a bit salty for my order of the original curry udon. Recommended to have mochi topping (japanese rice cake) or/and add a bowl of rice. The curry goes pretty well with the rice. 😋 It also served with a dessert, which I think it was the most bonus point for the whole experience. It's a lemon based jelly kind of dessert. Very refreshing and I love it most. 😍

The staffs are very friendly, and the atmosphere in the shop is slow and nice. Good for taking a quick bite and a rest after shopping. 👍

My first experience with 古奈屋 was through an instant product from a mart, and it quickly became one of my favorites. When I had the chance to visit Sugamo, I searched for a few lunch spots on Google Maps and found this place. Naturally, it was at the top of the list.

As expected, I enjoyed the curry udon, which had a different flavor from the instant version I had tried before. I would say both are good in their own way.

Cash only I waited about 15 minutes...

If you want the best Curry Udon you've ever had, Konaya is the place! I highly suggest the Curry Udon with Mochi in it. It's their signature dish and there's nothing quite like it. Also, try the Tempura Banana! If you love it, you can head home with delicious Curry Udon crackers that they sell right there in the restaurant.
