I’ve visited Tokyo 7 times in the past 7 years (2 of which were COVID years), and I can confidently say this is the most overpriced restaurant I’ve ever been to in Tokyo.
The ambiance was really nice and cozy — like walking into your grandma’s house, where you know you’ll be served good food. However, the ambiance was the only thing that stands out.
The food wasn’t bad, but the portions were far too small for the price. We were a party of six, and each of us paid around JPY 12,000. We left the premises at around 9PM, and some of us needed to get ramen at 12AM because we were still hungry.
What shocked me the most was the additional charges. On top of the table fee of JPY 1,000 per person (as mentioned on Tabelog), they charged a service fee of JPY 1,000/1,500 per person and JPY 2,000 for iced tea for the six of us — which was essentially ready to drink tea from a convenience store. I’ve never encountered such fees during any of my trips to Japan, not at cheap and affordable restaurants, let alone decent omakase restaurants in Tokyo or Sapporo.
Overall, while the food wasn’t bad and the ambiance was nice, dining here felt like a major...
Read moreThis marvelous little sukiyaki restaurant is in an old family house on a small back alley in Roppongi. It feels like they cleared a spot in the living room to make room for a few tables, stacking knick knacks and curios to make room for their guests. I understand there are private dining rooms on the second floor. The wagyu beef sukiyaki is made at your table and accompanied by pickles, squid bits, fish cakes, steamed daikon, rice and other tiny plates. The beef is cooked with brown sugar and lard (who could ask for more?) and can be served, deliciously so, with raw egg. A little green tea and a small fruit plate finishes off the meal. This little place is a real gem. I highly recommend it. Dinner for two was around 16000yen including two mixed drinks from...
Read more8pm dinner here at Kyutaro, we were the only table during that seating so it was nice and quiet. Cozy jazz music playing in the background while eating sukiyaki was really nice. The portions are a little small for about 10,000 yen per person but the sukiyaki here is top notch. The sukiyaki sauce was delicious and I love the way they caramalised the negi and onions.
The lady serving us was actually really nice if you make conversation with her. She looked a little fierce prior but after chatting with her we realised she’s actually super nice and chatty and speaks great English.
Overall it’s a nice experience that I found through blackpink Jennie’s YouTube VLOG. This is a...
