Walking into Malay Kampung Kopitiam, by Brahim's, for a late lunch felt like an instant trip to Malaysia. We were looking for some comforting halal food, and this spot, tucked neatly under the APA Hotel, was perfect. The restaurant was spotless, and the menu, though simple, was packed with all the Malaysian favorites. Everything looked so good, we were tempted to order the entire menu. And when the food arrived, it did not disappoint. Each dish was incredibly authentic, tasting exactly like it was made with love by a Malaysian aunty. Even our two boys, ages 7 and 9, absolutely loved it, which is the ultimate seal of approval! It was a genuine taste of home, and we were blown away by how true to its roots the flavors were. On top of the amazing food, the service was fantastic. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and they were very patient and accommodating with our limited Japanese. The only downside is that they aren't open longer hours. If you're in Tokyo and craving truly authentic Malaysian food, this is a must-visit. In fact, we loved it so much we're already planning to go back for...
Read moreThought it would be fun to see what Malaysia food was like in Japan. It felt fairly authentic overall. The food was not 100% spot on to a true malay meal but was close.
The nasi lemak was good. It was served with chicken rendang instead of fried chicken. When we ordered the fried chicken it was a very small portion and the Japanese Karage version, not the Malay fried chicken I would have expected.
The roti and curry sauce was really good. The roti was crispy on the outside, flaky and chewy in the interior and made of multiple layers.
Teh tarik, sounded like it was whisked rather than pulled like is traditional. Strong tea leaf taste but not very sweet like in Malaysia. Could use more condensed milk.
Chicken Rendang was tender and well seasoned. I wish they also had a beef version for more depth of flavour!
This venue is halal. The staff were friendly and polite. Does not seem to be very busy as we walked last multiple times and it was always available for seating.
Standout items were the roti, chicken Rendang and the lovely...
Read moreMy wife and I went to this restaurant the first time, this is a humble small restaurant yet big enough to make one feel comfortable. We ordered their Nasi Lemak, Wonton Mee, Rendang Chicken, Roti Canai, otak-otak, teh tarik and Malaysian style coffee. As an ex-Malaysian, I truly love their Nasi Lemak, Roti Canai and Rendang Chicken. The savory taste of their Nasi Lemak was unforgettable. The Sambal sauce was nicely made, spicy enough to make me feel the heat and go well with the rest of the side dishes. Their Rendang was equally amazing, the various spices were harmoniously complement each other, plus the final touch of lime leaf have brought up the multi level of taste in the sauce that has made this Rendang one of the best I had tried so far and closest to the taste I was looking for that a good Rendang should taste like. For my own personal preference, this place is certainly one of the best Malaysian I had tried in Tokyo so far. The best price to value you could get. I would revisit the next time I am...
