DISCRIMINATION ALERT at this coffee shop! If you are a coffee lover (coffee shop lover) living nearby Hiroo, Azabu, Roppongi area, you know where to go. Sawamura, Maruyama, Blue Bottle, Bricolage bread&co. etc. We’re a family of three who love to visit local coffee shops, but never been to this Nem Coffee&Espresso until I got to accompany my friend who happens to be this shop’s favorite customer, so they allowed us to sit there over than 2 hours despite their “1 hour policy due to Covid”. Today, I went there again with my son because I saw that the shop was quiet and there were only 1-2 customers when we arrived. After finished our meals, the shop was still empty with only 5 customers including me and my son, but they don’t allow us to sit over than 1 hour and had to come to ask us to leave. My 6 yo confused and asked them why we had to leave? They explained their 1 hour policy(which I already knew) so I asked why they allowed me and my friend to stay almost 3 hours the other day. Is it because I came with “a kid” today? But my son was studying on his iPad drawing something quietly and not doing anything disturbing other customers, why would he need to leave? My son was so sad because he was concentrating on his work on iPad. They said “not because of the kid, but because my friend is their favorite customer”. My friend often comes to the shop, so they allowed her to sit longer than other customer(and I was just lucky because I came with her last time). What does it mean? I just can’t believe what I heard. They are not a kid discrimination?, but a human being...
Read moreThis place is Hiroo's best kept secret. It's hidden in a little residential alley near the supermarket. As many times as we were nearby my one only regret before leaving Japan is that we didn't find it sooner in the 90 days we spent here. Such is life.
The staff was very kind, welcoming, and accommodating for us and our little one. If you've got kids I would say it's fine to leave a stroller outside, and if you get a table inside there's enough room. Otherwise save it for a date lunch.
The iced maple cinnamon latte was delightful and so was the banana bread. I can tell that both recipes were crafted and refined over a long enough time that the results were fine items with balanced flavor.
The vibe was perfect: cozy and warm, but still felt modern in a way. In fact it very much felt like a modernized kissa (but without the...
Read moreExcellent coffee. I had the Ethiopian double shot machiato (¥1200) and a burrata sandwich. The quality of every ingredient was perfect, smooth espresso, creamy burrata on crispy toast, good quality drizzled olive oil, with sweet cherry tomatoes and arugula and super fresh basil.
I brought a book to read. This is not the place for it. A long community table with stool chairs, without a back, hard to lounge and enjoy a book. But if you wanted great snack and an excellent coffee, this place is perfect. The staff is super courteous and nice, the decoration strikes a nice balance between homey and modern, and the music (classic jazz) is just at the right volume.
There is a queue, the place is small, so consider getting your coffee to go. Won’t regret it, the quality of the coffee...
