Burdigala is a well-known store in Hiroo located between the subway station and National Azabu. Burdigala names originates from the name in Latin of Bordeaux in South-West France. Burdigala is renowned for its French bread made of wheat flour from Hokkaido but it also offers delicious viennoiserie, cakes and cookies. Chef-Patissier is NITTA prepares delicious French-style cakes, I particularly like the Eclair Pistache (260 yens) and its Shortcake (460 yens) and Miroir Chocolat (470 yens). There is a variety of 15 plus cakes. You may also order 4 to 5 portions cakes such as “Gateau Fruit”, “Chocolate Cake” or “Tarte Fruit” starting form 2,500 yens. The atelier is not located within the Hiroo premises but in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture. The store in Hiroo is the main store but is has also nine sister shops in Kanto and Kansai, under Burdigala Café and Burdigala...

Although they do not have a wide selection compared to bigger bakeries, they offer some interesting seasonal specials which were great flavour pairings. One of them was the spinach croque monsieur which has a lovely and rich deep green color contrasting to the melty bright cheese, the bread was toasted to perfection and retained a great crunch despite being taken away to consume at the nearby park.
