Only makes a 2 star rating because the mole sauce was decent. The place has potential if it can learn what a portion is. My wife and I went in with excitement after seeing the variety on the menu only to be disappointed more and more as the food came out. We ordered from the dinner menu instead of the lunch menu because we heard it was a better selection and was prepared better. We ordered the baked chorizo quesadillas to split, two pork carnita tacos, and two chicken enchilada mole poblanos. It totaled about 3100 yen, with my half totaling about 2000 yen after taxes. Despite the price, it amounted to only a conservative 10 bites of food. The quesadillas were intriguingly made out of corn tortillas and about as big as a standard smartphone. They weren't bad, but for the price, it was a waste of money. They didn't even come with a dollop of guacamole and the chorizo didn't even come out to play. In three conservative bites (I could have folded it like a pizza and it would have been a 1 bite piece the size of a tortellini) my half of the plate was gone. We were now concerned about the rest of the meal. The tacos were decent, if not also lacking in condiments and would have failed to fill up a mouse had they been left out in the Tokyo subway. One of my 10 bites was of one of the two tacos. Then the wait started, and we waited, until I likely burned up all calories from my meager appetizer lifting my drink up to my mouth and talking before the enchiladas came out. And my heart and stomach sank in major disappointment. Not only was there only a tiny dollop of refried beans with 3 chips on the side, but there didn't even seem to be any enchiladas on the plate. I looked closer and there were some slight bumps on the plate. There were two cheese (no noticeable chicken) quesadillas about the size of the appetizer masquerading as enchiladas underneath that thin layer of sauce. In 6 conservative bites they were gone along with the beans. 2000 yen later (1/2 an appetizer and an entree) I was hungrier than when I started. It isn't even that they didn't have wraps to attempt a proper enchilada because the table next to me had a burrito that would have overcome the low bar Mexican in Tokyo sets. But they couldn't even do that, the enchiladas failed horribly. The entire meal was my worst Tex-Mex food experience in all of Japan and I will never go back. La Jolla down the street at least resembles proper TexMex and the portions are great. I don't know how this place is so popular and I can't believe people are continually getting ripped off with the price for portion/quality. My recommendation, go anywhere but here til they realize what a proper meal and a proper TexMex...
Read moreThis is the best place to get Mexican food in Tokyo. The dishes taste as authentic as you can get for not being in Mexico and there is a lot of variety in the menu with special meals such as tamales. The restaurant closed during Golden Week this year so that the restaurant staff could go to Mexico, and their first-hand knowledge of Mexican food definitely shows in their recipes. I wouldn't call this place Tex-mex because the dishes were like what I really ate in Mexico when I lived there, especially because there is not a lot of cheese used. Other reviewers are correct that the portions are Japanese sized, but this shouldn't be a surprise since we are in Japan. As to the prices, they do seem slightly high, but the restaurant is located in a stylish area of Tokyo and they use as many authentic ingredients as they can get, so it's natural for the cost to be a bit higher. There is a very affordable lunch menu with five or six tasty options, but most of the really appealing and rare dishes (tamales) seem to be on the dinner menu, so be prepared for that. The restaurant fills up fast at lunch, with people waiting in line outside before they open, so be prepared for...
Read moreFirst time in Tokyo and was craving some Mexican food. After some research, my wife found this place!
We walked there easily enough, then downstairs through the front door. We got there just as it opened for dinner at 1700(5pm) which was fine, but they begin taking reservations and don't seat walkins after 1900(7pm). The atmosphere was good, very authentic.
Their menu was simple, about 10 pages long...6 of them devoted to alcoholic beverages. Portions were small, Japanese sized.
The food was excellent. I had the guacamole dip appetizer and 3 beef tacos. I definitely recommend this place to everyone. I would certainly go back if I ever find myself in the area again.
They take...
