nexpect coffee — Restaurant in Tokyo

The coffee here was unreal. This is pretty far from the usual beaten path tourist tend to take. It's a small shop with a lounging area. Upon entering, you are greeted with a machine to take your order with translated menu available. To my surprise, the translation were pretty good and did not appear to be machine translated. You put in your order and, similar to a ramen shop, out comes a ticket that you hand to the barista.

There were a few locals there when I visited with a small pair finishing up a work assignment from the looks of it. Very casual vibe here.

I ordered a drip coffee and watched as it was carefully made as if it were a spectacle. I liked the coffee I had so much I bought some beans. Same process with the machine except the barista goes to the shelf with the beans and brushes it off before placing it in a bag and handing it to you.

Would love to revisit this shop the next time...

I opted for their least acidic black coffee, served in a simple yet elegant set. The coffee had a smooth, well-rounded profile that made it incredibly easy to drink. It leaned towards a nutty and slightly chocolatey finish. The donut, served alongside, had a beautifully golden exterior and a soft, fluffy texture inside. The laid back vibe of this cafe asks you to slow down, sit and enjoy the sounds of the background music, birds chirping, and the hypnotic whir of the coffee machine. The beans smell awesome…. You can smell the aroma just before you turn the corner. And the Shakerato was such a pleasant surprise! It’s black coffee shaken and foamed.
