A shop located inside the commercial facility Mikan Shimokitazawa under the elevated train tracks in front of Shimokitazawa Station. Among all the shops, this one is the closest to the station, so it’s really convenient and you can get there without getting wet from the rain.
The interior has a calm and dim atmosphere, reminiscent of an old traditional house. I visited on a Thursday, and despite it being a popular spot, all the seats were always taken.
The recommended drink here is shochu. They offer around three types each of sweet potato, barley, rice shochu, and awamori.
The menu features traditional Japanese izakaya dishes.
The seasonal white fish liver with ponzu sauce was rich and fresh. The spicy grated daikon radish added the perfect kick.
The yellowtail sashimi was perfectly fatty and amazing.
The O-masaki Kagoshima chicken hot pot (bird shabu) featured a delicious broth. With a generous amount of green onions, dipping the chicken into the broth made for a perfect combination.
The chicken is carefully butchered by an expert to ensure the freshness and quality. You’re advised not to overcook it, which really highlights the excellent freshness.
The udon served as the last dish was firm and delicious.
The negi-shio beef tongue rice is an indulgent dish where the beef tongue in a salty green onion sauce is served directly in a stone pot. As time goes on, it forms a delicious crispy crust.
By chance, there was still some leftover bird shabu broth, so I poured it over the rice, and it turned into a fantastic broth-soaked rice dish. This combination was amazing and I highly recommend it. I wish it were part of the...
Read moreWe visited Shimokita Rokkaku for lunch and tried the salmon set(銀鮭イクラ定食) and the mixed fried fish set(ミックスフライ定食). The portion sizes are huge—much bigger than I expected! I was so full that I didn’t eat anything for the rest of the day. While the taste was okay, I can’t say it’s the best I’ve had. Still, the overall experience was great.
One thing to note is that because the portions are so large, the flavor can become repetitive about halfway through. When I got bored of the salmon, I shared it with my friend, which allowed me to try another dish. It was a nice way to mix things up.
Overall, if you’re looking for a filling meal with generous portions, this is a good spot...
Read moreLocated right outside the Shimo-Kitazawa station, this little restaurant was packed when we arrived in Shimokitazawa during lunch time. With the line out the door, we figured it must be good so we stopped here for lunch. I ordered the salmon roe set meal for 1,500 yen while my friend had the fried set meal. The set meals comes with a filet of salted salmon, salmon roe, a small bowls of pickles, miso soup, and unlimited rice refills and everything was delicious. Great place to come and have lunch before you walk the streets and go...
