My companion and I enjoyed our meal at Shokuno Hanamachi Edo Restaurant while visiting Tokyo. The restaurant menu allows you to order from a variety of food types, which is great if each person is in the mood for something different (or if you simply want some variety). There are even vegetarian items available. All of the food we ate was of good quality. I respectfully disagree with reviewers that say that the food here is expensive. Although it's true that some skewers are pricier than what is charged in the nearby alleyway, those alleyway establishments may charge you a cover and require a drink minimum to eat elbow to elbow in a hot, crowded space. So it evens out, really. Other food items seem to be priced similarly to what other sit-down restaurants charge. For instance, the eel at Shokuno is definitely priced similarly to what most eel restaurants in Tokyo charge (and the quality is excellent). Plus, if you're looking to try wagyu while visiting Tokyo, Shokuno allows you to do so without paying a steep price for a full-course meal at a steakhouse. If there is an upcharge at Shokuno, it's the tax. The 10 percent tax is added onto the bill instead of being built into the prices (as is common at some other establishments). But, it's my understanding that establishments are permitted to apply the tax using either method. So, it is what it is. Please be warned though that if you do come here, you'll need to scan a QR code with your smartphone to pull up the menu (which is available in English) and order your food via a web-based app (you then pay at the register at the conclusion of your meal). On the one hand, this is convenient. But, not everyone is comfortable ordering this way. Also, the app was glitchy on the night we came. Although, there's a two-step process to add an item to one's order, which should minimize the possibility of adding an item in error, the app nevertheless erroneously added on two different items to our order. These were items that we didn't even look at or consider ordering. The same thing happened to another table nearby. So, it wasn't an isolated incident. This glitch makes my review a 4 star review instead of a 5 star review. Hopefully, Shokuno will debug their app so that this doesn't happen to...
Read moreThis restaurant is on the third floor of the building so I can see how it may be overlooked, but it was delicious and a great find! We got a variety of things to try including a chicken and rice bowl, chicken skewer, and vegetable tempura, that were all super delicious. While a chicken skewer seems simple the flavor was outstanding. But the best part by far was the wagyu beef skewer which was amazing, hands down my husband said it was the best beef he’s ever had. We strongly debated getting another one, but we were too full. The staff was super nice and friendly. They had a QR code menu you ordered from that was also in English and was very easy and they accepted credit cards. Overall we were exhausted American tourist super jet lagged from just arriving in Tokyo and felt like we stumbled upon a gem. The restaurant was very low key, not too loud, cute decor. If you’re in the area and trying your find somewhere, we definitely...
Read moreCame here based on the Google reviews, tired and foot-sore after a trip to Kamikura (25k steps achieved according to my Fitbit!) Arrived about 10 mins before the end of the show and it was far too loud for the waiter to make himself heard, so we thought we'd try a different floor to see what was on offer. Went to the 4th but there was only BBQ (which we had last night) so he went to some effort to advise us that the show was only on for another 10 mins and we were welcome to wait and he would let us know when it was ended. So glad we waited! Service was excellent, attentive and friendly without being overpowering. We ordered an amazing selection of sushi, skewers, tempura and salads. Particular standouts were the sashimi, the potato salad, the sofa salad, and the tempura. Everything we had was delicious (including the Asahi Super Dry!) and we left sated and impressed. 10/10, highly...
