Visiting Godzilla Road in Shinjuku was an unforgettable experience. My first reaction stepping onto the street was pure awe—the atmosphere hit instantly. The street was crowded with tourists snapping photos and locals moving through, giving it the electric energy Shinjuku is known for.
The highlight was, of course, the giant Godzilla head on the Toho building. I saw it early in the evening and took plenty of pictures, though I wished for a higher vantage point. Even without the perfect angle, it was impressive to see Godzilla looming overhead. I had heard it sometimes roars, but with all the noise of the street I didn’t catch it this time.
Beyond Godzilla, the road is lined with shops, restaurants, and entertainment. We stopped at Don Quixote for souvenirs—fun but pricey for Godzilla memorabilia. Crossing the street itself was an experience since many people paused mid-crossing for photos and even videos with professional cameras.
Godzilla Road is a spot anyone can enjoy—families, tourists, and fans of Japanese pop culture. The only caution is for those who dislike crowds, since it’s always busy. I’d love to return at another time of day to see how the atmosphere changes.
Tourist Tips:
Early evening offers the best vibe with lights but less late-night chaos.
Look for higher spots nearby for better Godzilla photos.
Expect heavy crowds at the crossing.
Souvenirs at Don Quixote can be overpriced, so shop around.
Overall, it’s more than a photo stop—it’s a slice of Tokyo energy and definitely...
Read moreIt's a place you really need to go and see if you're a visitor in the area; I walk through here often, and personally I think it's a little gross, because there is garbage everywhere in the early morning, but I still take everyone who comes to visit the area to have a look, because its one of those places you've gotta go see. Also, it is very overwhelming! If you find yourself feeling a little overwhelmed, I'd recommend stopping in Booth cafe, an Internet cafe on that street, which is usually nice...
Read moreAs expected, absolutely thick with tourists and over priced stores. Some cool stuff to look at and experience once, but we spent most of our 2 weeks here actively avoiding this area. Listen to the pre recorded police announcements and stay safe and don't fall for scammers (touts) who try to lead you to some restaurant, bar, karaoke parlor, or "club"... unless you want to wake up without your wallet. Do your safety research before visiting any...
