Unless You Have Grandparents That Are Sushi Gods, You Need To Come Here.
You know the kind of night that feels cinematic? Heavy rain pelting sideways, city lights smeared across your glasses, socks soaked and patience thin. That’s when I stumbled into this place. Last minute planned, not researched, just desperation and dumb luck. And like all the best meals in life, it began with being let in.
They didn’t hesitate. Just took me in, warmed me up, and quietly set about preparing the kind of food that makes you reconsider every other nigiri you've ever accepted.
Food highlights include: The chu toro tuna was like soft velvet, delicious unagi 2 different ways, soy sauce squid that was almost melt in your mouth (didn't even know you could do that with squid), super fresh uni, delicious seabass, sardine with ginger that was probably the most flavor balanced piece of sushi i've ever had, and many more
This wasn’t a performance. No pretension. No complex choreographed service routine. It was a home with quiet assurance that everything placed in front of me came with the warm intent to comfort me and make me happy. As my two-week journey across Japan came to a close, this final dinner for me became the best.
I don't know if the owners of this place ever read these reviews but in case they do.... I hope you know you are living the dream. Making delicious sushi. Welcoming guests into your home. You're making such a great memory for all your guests. I hope truly understand how much your guests appreciate and adore you. You live a life that others dream to live. Thank you...
Read moreTonight we enjoyed the best meal we have had in our time in Japan. Omakase, for those like us who didn’t know, feels a little bit like a sushi tasting menu, with plates of sushi and accompaniments being offered until you are completely satisfied - and Keizo seemed to know exactly the right amount to give! The sushi was fresh and delicious, and better yet, Keizo taught us about each dish and how to eat it properly - with what accompaniments, and in what order. The total cost (with sake!) came to 40k for two of us, with us leaving very full and happy.
As well as the delicious food, the best thing about tonight was the warm, easy atmosphere. We shared lots of laughs with Keizo and his lovely wife, and despite a language barrier between us, we left the restaurant feeling that we’d made two friends!
We’d recommend Sushi Gyoen to anyone visiting Toyko. Completely unexpected, and very...
Read moreWalked in based off the good reviews and was firstly told that it’s only a “course” menu. Explained that I’d came for that reason (Omakase) then the server walked me to a board in front of the entrance near roadside to show me the price and asked to confirm if the price is okay with me. I said perfect to that too. The server walked in to the restaurant, came back out and said they wouldn’t serve “guests”, only “Japanese people” and turned us away. There were only 2 people eating in the restaurant at the time. Disappointing after walking a long distance in the cold to get here. I would appreciate it if he told me upfront that they don’t serve foreigners, rather than made me wait in the cold with 2 irrelevant questions in...
