This is a classic sushi restaurant in the old style, but it has been modernised in the sense that it’s spotlessly clean and the chef understands that if you’re not Japanese you need to be welcomed and engaged. Long gone are the days where you go to a restaurant like this and feel like a real outsider. The chef goes out of his way to make sure that you feel welcomed and without doubt the food is exceptional. You eat quite a few pieces, maybe over 20.
Got slightly annoyed at the end as there is a clear gap in the service for regulars/locals abd foreigners. But I guess this how they roll. I just wished the gap was a little smaller.
While we received 2 extra pieces and 3 makimonos as a "complimentary" service. "Regular" around us got literally 5 extra pieces and 6 makimonos. That made me feel a little awkward.
