I have known Sushizanmai chain for a while and came because they use to be good. I invited people from my family that was visiting Japan for the 1st time, thinking it was a good starter to Sushi cuisine. Unfortunately, it turned out really wrong.
Food itself was ok, at expected level from a Sushizanmai.
But we had trouble with their ordering system (tablet app) and I suspect that we had a special "foreigner treatment" too.
At what we thought to be the end of our meal and we were stomach full, we got served 6 plates of 6 tekka maki each. That is a lot of food arriving really late. But more concerning, NOBODY ORDERED THIS !!! We checked their tablet app for any mistakes, but their app did not provide a way to check order timestamps, hence the trap.
I tried to politely challenge the issue to the staff in Japanese language (I'm living in Japan since 2012), but all i got is a stubborn "you ordered it so you pay". I could also hear some small talks about us between chefs and the staff.
Staff also took away my miso soup before I could touch it for some reason.

The freshness of their sushi and sashimi remains very much consistent which I highly appreciate. Service however was a bit let down when I dined there for lunch. The waitress was a bit impolite and impatient. However I still highly recommend sushi zanmai.
