This is THE restaurant that I will recommend to my friends and family when they visit Tokyo. It was the only restaurant we visited twice after spending 6 days in Tokyo. I had never heard of monjayaki before visiting Tsukishima. My boyfriend and I were hungry after walking around the neighborhood and smelled what looked like okonomiyaki coming from this restaurant. The patrons were all Japanese so we were excited to try a place that was seemingly more appreciated by locals.
We immediately walked in and were greeted by kind and helpful staff. The staff takes their time to perfect the monjayaki and will chat with you (one of our servers spoke english so we were lucky to ask him a bunch of questions! I think his name is spelled Soichiro, but I'm not sure). The menu also comes in English and has a little history section at the beginning to learn more about the dish!
The experience of monjayaki is great. Your eating is well paced because you have to wait for the staff to cook your food, which allows for more conversation at the table and appreciation of your dish. It's also very entertaining to watch the staff put together all of the fresh ingredients right in front of you.

What we ordered (and loved) the 2nd time: Squid ink monja with cheese (so good we had to get it again) Pork, leek, & egg monja Okonomiyaki (pork & noodles - this okonomiyaki was made Hiroshima style, which focuses on layering the ingredients instead of mashing and mixing them together, and it was SO delicious. Apparently, it can be challenging to find Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki outside of Chūgoku because most places serve Kansai-style, so we recommend this one a lot!) Lychee & condensed milk drink (again, so delicious we had to get another)
I seriously cannot recommend this place enough. I rarely write reviews that are this detailed on Google but truly believe that this place deserves it for phenomenal food and superb staff. The owner (or we at least assumed so) recognized us immediately too - it was pretty funny!

Read moreDo not recommend this restaurant, particularly for people who can't speak Japanese. Even with the help of google translate, the communication is very difficult. They have the English menu but the price is not updated and hence incorrect (so the actual price is higher and you will only know this when you pay; they will say sorry but won't do anything else). I pointed the item (octopus & pork) on English menu where Japanese is just written below to order, but the lady still got my order wrong (octopus only). When I asked where is the pork, she said you want to add? I asked whether the item I ordered is without pork (but the menu indicates pork & octopus clearly) and then she said she is sorry and she will bring pork. When the bills come, it still shows I order octopus and add pork (of course the price is higher than that of combined flavors), on top of that prices shown in English menu are old/not updated. After the lady cooked monjayaki, she just said I can eat and left. Due to language issues, I feel she is shy and wanted to avoid interactions and I had to google how to eat monjayaki. レビューを見れば韓国語できるスタッフがいてみんなフレンドリーだと言って行きましたが、すべてのスタッフが英語が話せないかどうかは全く日本語で疎通しました。 女性スタッフ一人抜いて他の男性スタッフ全員スタッフ教育再びしなければならないと思います。
他のテーブルは呼んでいなくても知って行って何が必要なのかと尋ねて助けてくれながら、いざ私たちが呼ぶ時は待つと言ってくれなかったんです。キッチンで笑いながら騒いでいると呼んだら待って、他のスタッフを呼んで送ってしまったし、食べ物も食材だけトゥト置いて行ってしまって無限の待ちばかりしました。説明でも行っていたのか説明書かれたメニュー版でもナプ置かなければなりませんが説明書は持って行ってしまって案内はしてくれません。
職員が外国人なので差別するのが好きなほど行動します。最初は忙しくてそうかより、外国人だからコミュニケーションが負担なのかよりしたのにずっとあるから人種差別か?思ったほど行動して口当たりが落ちました。 特に背が高くてふっくらした男(パダナスムンサム似た人)と高い職級みたいな人(田中似た人)が一番人種差別?ひどいです。
もんじゃ焼きとお好み焼きをさせたが、もんじゃ焼きは言葉もなく作ったら説明もなくただ行ってしまってインターネット見ながら食べたし、お好み焼きはもともとセルフということを知って作ろうとしたが鉄板も分かって拭かなければならないと説明書は持っていって、助けてくれふっくらした男がずっと逃げながら聞いたふりをしないと仕方なくしてくれるようだったら途中からは女性職員させて去ってしまったらマヨネーズとソースは持ってくれなくてまたしばらく待ちました。 言葉を言いたくないなら最初からちゃんと持ってくるか全部抜いておいてもらってもらえばずっと待ってと言えばどうするのか分からないです。 その渦中に食べているのにソースとドリンクのカップを好きなようにすべて消してしまうのに持って行く前に聞かなければならないのではないでしょうか?もう自分の勝手に持っていくと聞くのはどうしようかなww 誰が見ても残っていたのに すでにカップとソース缶複数の漢方に持っていって口当たる部分汚染されてただ捨てました。
日本旅行で出会ったスタッフ全員が本当に優しくてとても親切で気持ちが良かったのですが、最後に最後の食事で東京に良いイメージを台無しにしました。
上司に レビュー 悪い順で見れば上の二人はずっと問題があったのに言葉だけ教育して変化させるとせず、きちんと問題解決してほしいです。スタッフマインドが本物の0点です。誰は汗を流しながら食べ物作り、誰は自分がやりたいことだけ作り、キッチンで騒いでいたが、そんな風に行動しないようにぜひ!お願いします。無料の食べ物を食べたのではなく、お金を出して食べるのに気分が悪いです。

별 한개도 아까운 음식점입니다. 밥먹다가 기분 나빠진거 처음입니다. 왜 별 0점은 안되는걸까요?
리뷰 보면 한국어 할 수 있는 직원이 있고 다들 친절하다고 해서 갔는데 모든 직원이 영어를 못하는건지 안하는건지 아예 일본어로만 소통했어요. 여자 직원 한분 빼고 다른 남자 직원들 전부 직원교육 다시 해야될거 같아요.
다른 테이블은 부르지 않아도 알아서 가서 뭐 필요하냐고 묻고 도와주면서 정작 저희가 부를때는 기다리라고만 하고 오지도 않았어요. 주방에서 웃으면서 떠들고 있길래 불렀더니 기다리라고 해놓고 다른 직원 불러서 보내버리고 음식도 재료만 툭 놓고 가버려서 무한 기다림만 엄청 했어요. 설명이라도 하고 가던가 설명 적힌 메뉴판이라도 냅둬야 되는데 설명서은 가져가버리고 안내는 해주지도 않아요.
직원들이 외국인이라서 차별하는건가 싶을 정도로 행동해요. 처음에는 바빠서 그런가보다, 외국인이라 소통이 부담스러운가보다 했는데 계속 있다보니까 인종차별인가? 생각들 정도로 행동해서 입맛 떨어졌어요. 특히 키작고 통통한 남자(빠더너스 문쌤 닮은 사람)랑 높은 직급같은 사람(다나카 닮은 사람)이 제일 인종차별? 심해요.
몬자야끼랑 오꼬노미야끼를 시켰는데 몬자야끼는 말도 없이 만들더니 설명도 없이 그냥 가버려서 인터넷보면서 먹었고, 오꼬노미야끼는 원래 셀프라는 것을 알아서 만들려고 했는데 철판도 알아서 닦고 해야된다고 하고 설명서는 가지고 가버리고, 도와달라고 하니까 통통한 남자가 계속 도망다니면서 들은 척도 안하다고 어쩔 수 없이 해주는 거 같더니 중간부터는 여자 직원시켜서 떠넘겨버리더니 마요네즈랑 소스는 가져다주지도 않아서 또 한참 기다렸어요. 말을 하기 싫으면 처음부터 제대로 가져다 주던가 다 빼먹어놓고 가져다 달라고 하면 계속 기다리라고만 하면 어쩌자는 건지 모르겠어요. 그 와중에 먹고있는데 소스랑 음료수 컵 맘대로 다 치워버리는데 들고 가기 전에 물어야되는거 아닌가요? 이미 자기 맘대로 들고 가다가 묻는건 어쩌자는 건지ㅋㅋ 누가 봐도 남아있었는데 이미 컵이랑 소스통 여러개 한방에 가져가면서 입 닿는 부분 오염되가지고 그냥 버렸어요.. 진짜 돈 낭비..
일본여행하면서 만났던 모든 직원들 정말 착하고 너무 친절해서 기분이 좋았었는데 하필 마지막날 마지막 식사에서 도쿄에 좋은 이미지를 망쳐버렸어요.
