VERVE COFFEE ROASTERS EBISU — Restaurant in Tokyo

It's just another cookie-cutter trendy coffee place. I ordered an Americano (not on the menu) and I got a lungo (close enough), but it was so bitter with a hard acidic taste that I was actually happy that it was so small despite the big price. Maybe some people like super-bitter coffee. The space is spacious, but just drab gray-painted exposed concrete with basically no decoration. I’ve been traveling through Japan for a week now, and I’ve been visiting specialty coffee shops almost every day. This has definitely been my favorite one so far! The coffee was excellent, and the food — a pastrami & avocado sandwich — was really, really good. Although Japan’s coffee scene is generally impressive, I’ve found that many places are either too specialized and hardly serve any food, or they’re not truly specialty coffee spots. I like VERVE Coffee, and I was excited when they opened a new location near my home.

But after visiting regularly, I’ve noticed not just the good points but also some areas for improvement. I hope they can make things even better.

There’s seating upstairs, but it was disappointing when I sat in the cosy spot near the wall and the air conditioning blew directly on me, making it quite cold.
