This place is underrated. It’s really a hidden gem. I am surprised it’s not more crowded because the food here is so good. I came here twice and first time only waited a few minutes. The second time I came for dinner, there was no wait.
There are 2 main dishes on the menu: the dandan noodles and jajang noodles. Both are served as dry noodles (less broth, but broth is concentrated and more flavorful) with a side of yuzu juice condiment that can be added to your noodles as you eat. The yuzu adds such a freshness and changes up the flavor so well.
The dandan noodles are spicy and you can adjust the level of spiciness and the level of numbing spice (3 levels). I usually go with 1 for both and it’s mild. The sauce has ground meat, cashew nuts and a numbing/mala spice that is very addicting. It pairs very well with the yuzu juice condiment that is provided on the side . There are Sichuan peppercorn dispensers on the table for you to add more if you so please.
The jajang noodles is not spicy and has a savory soy flavor with a tender piece of chashu. This also comes with the yuzu juice condiment.
The shop is small and only has bar type seating (9 seats) and has a modern nice atmosphere. The same two people who run the shop are also always really friendly and welcoming.
It’s a very short 1-2 min walk from the Iwamotocho station and about a 5 min walk from Akihabara station. Highly recommend you...
Read moreLocated about a five-minute walk south of Akihabara station, this is a two-story restaurant with approximately ten counter seats on the first floor. You can purchase your noodles from a machine at the entrance. The options are either brothless tuzu tantan noodles or yuzu jjajang noodles for JPY 1100, or a set that includes a small rice bowl (chashu or chicken) for JPY 1400. Other small details include all the water jars having yuzu zest in the water. The staff were also very accommodating in allowing me to switch my order at no cost before it was fully made as I made a mistake.
Patrons can choose to have their noodles served either warm or chilled, and they can also select the desired spice and "numbness" level, as described by the staff.
Before the meal is served, you're given a small pourer (about 30 ml) of yuzu essence to enhance both the yuzu aroma and the acidity of the noodles.
Both noodle dishes are infused with yuzu in a well-balanced way that is neither overpowering nor too subtle. The noodles are served al dente.
Overall, both dishes are extremely enjoyable on a summer day. While I personally preferred the tantan noodles, the jjajang noodles could easily be a...
Read moreI’m so glad I came by this place when browsing on maps for a place to have dinner at. I went around 7pm on a Saturday and was the only one there… shocking considering how spectacular food was!
You place your order at a ticket machine, there’s only a couple options to choose from, I took the spicy dan dan noodles with a soft boiled egg on the side. The owner asked what level of spicy/numbness I wanted, went for 1:1. The noodles came with some yuzu on top and yuzu juice on the side, I was informed to be careful as it’s very sour.
I don’t have the words for how good the noodles were… the perfect balance between spicy and tangy. I gave the owner a standing ovation after I finished eating. It makes me want to go back and try the other type of noodles. Will definitely plan for another visit before I leave Tokyo!
Oh, and the owner is the loveliest person, he is so friendly and helpful. Visitors who don’t speak Japanese will feel very well taken care of.
UPDATE: I went again to try another thing on the menu and it was as incredible. It’s a must-visit during your trip to Tokyo!...
