Ever since becoming a family man and reflecting upon my experiences around the parks with my wife and kid, there are many reasons why I think the Magic Kingdom of the Far East is superior to the original Disney Parks (especially in their current state).
Pricing that is way more reasonable, even in the wake of inflation on both sides of the Pacific. At least you don't have to sell off various non-vital organs in your body to afford to go here, unlike in LA and Orlando.
Way more pleasant crowds. No sad, dead-inside Disney Adults to observe and question what the hell has gone wrong with America.
Disney Sea is the park California SHOULD have gotten if Mike Eisner weren't such a stubborn Francophile and pushed through the Euro Disney disaster. Seriously Mike, you should have gone with Spain if you wanted a Euro Disney. The locals would have been friendlier to the idea (Uncle Walt and Dali were BFFs you know!) and it would have been way more affordable with better weather!
There are many other things to like about the Tokyo Parks, but one thing that stands out is the beloved Pan Galactic Pizza Port. Many Japanese and non-Japanese alike all have a fuzzy fondness for this cartoony sci-fi themed pizza joint and it is easy to see why. The wild, elaborate animatronics and the googly-eye conductor of it all, Tony Solaroni, grab your imagination and let you in on the spectacle as you munch down your pizza. It's decent pizza too! It's not going to win awards but it'll give you a boost before you start dashing around the park to get on rides. Hey, its why Nolan Bushnell said pizza was the best food to choose for entertainment, its one of the hardest dishes to screw up!
Speaking of ol' Bushnell, the era of Chuck E Cheese and Showbiz Pizza and their animatronic shows are now a distant memory. There are many reasons for this sad state of affairs: Rising costs and maint for complicated mechanical rigs for the animatronics, the rise of projection-mapping and changing tastes in Tiktok-addled kids today. But, the fact that this place endures in the face of all of these new 21st century realities gives me a bit of hope that people still appreciate this kind of old-school animatronic entertainment.
The delightfully cheesy late-80's videos of the goofballs dancing on TV's while making pizza in a galactic factory with cartoon ads peppered throughout takes you back to a time when entertainment wasn't afraid to go wild and have fun, yet keep it simple and enjoyable! Better yet, when designing the robots they didn't even have to hire a nutty Floridian racist who believes in chemtrails and ended up blowing his warehouse in Orlando to smithereens while trying to develop an eco-friendly alternative to propane.
Well, I hope they didn't. Anyways, have a great time with the kids here and enjoy your pizza before jumping into Space Mountain. Just don't eat too much damn pizza before getting on the ride. The cast members at TDL already had a hard time dealing with COVID, they don't need to be mopping your barf off the...
Read moreEasily one of my favourite snacks at Tokyo Disneyland. Green mochi alien comes in threes with custard, strawberry and chocolate flavour. Highly suggest to get one for yourself to try all flavours. Mildly sweet, chewy and fresh mochi. Pizza is also crispy and smelt really good even in a distance. Highly recommended to get the pizza. Self order at the kiosk (English menu available) and proceed to collect food at the counter. Price is reasonable and there are 2 levels of seatings to...
Read moreWent there for lunch because other places seemed over crowded. They have pizza and stuff in here and the best part is, you can order the three alien dumplings! (They're literally the cutest😭). Each dumpling has a different taste (chocolate, strawberry, and custard). The pizza was okay but the chicken filling tacos (I forgot the name) were quite good! I personally kinda like it, especially if you want to avoid an over crowded place for your lunch at...
