I have stayed within the Tokyo Disney Resort before but this is my first stay at one of the Disney Hotels.
We started by checking in and dropping off our luggage at the Tokyo Resort Welcome Center (which by itself is a very convenient service), and could then roam around the Ikspiari shopping complex until we felt ready to head over to the hotel.
Best way to travel the Tokyo Disney Resort is by the Disney Resort Line, and the Resort Gateway Station is located just next to the Welcome Center. A short trip takes you to the Tokyo DisneySea station from which guests going to the MiraCosta have their own special entrance. After about a minute walk, during which you honestly feel a little bit special, you arrive at the hotel.
First impressions was great. The staff are all very friendly, warm smiles, waving to you and giving you a very nice welcome. The hotel itself is also quite impressive with its high ceiling lobby, Disney and the sea being the two most prominent themes. There are also a lot of details to discover if you take your time to have a closer look.
Our room was located on the top (5th) floor and since we were already checked in and had received our key cards, we could head directly to our room. I read later that it is also possible to check in online and that way get to use your phone as a room key, but that is not something we did.
Our room was of the Speciale type on the Porto Paradiso side with the great view of the park and harbor. The room was quite spacious, 40 m², with a big bathroom area. The Disney and sea theme was prominent here as well, featured in various art and decor. A very nice room to say the least!
All the amenities needed was provided, towels, bathrobes, pyjamas, slippers, toothbrushes and toothpaste, shower soap, shampoo, conditioner, dryer and the list goes on. There are also a refrigerator offering complimentary water.
In 2023, Tokyo Disney Resort are celebrating its 40th year in operation with a lot of fanfare, and one of all the happenings throughout the year is special anniversary event, Dream-Go-Round. From April 15 to May 31, the hotels and parks are decked out with garlands printed in anniversary colors and theme, special merchandise can be found at the stores and anniversary parades are also taking place. One of the reasons we chose to come and stay at MiraCosta this time was because the great view of the harbor, offering a great view of this Dram-Go-Round parade. While it is no possible to open the window fully, or get out onto the balcony of our specific room, you can open the window slightly to hear the music and get a very nice view of the parade, including the projection mapping on the surrounding buildings. It was a great show!
The hotel hosts a couple of restaurants which we did not visit but we did have a look at the gift shop with offers some exclusive MiraCosta goods. Worth having a look at for sure.
One of the main attractions of this hotel though is its own entrance into the Tokyo DisneySea park, making it easy to come and go between the park and the hotel as you’d like during the day. If you for example start your morning shopping away at the gift shops, you can, through the special entrance, just head back into the hotel, drop everything off, and then pop back into the park again effortlessly. Also useful if you want to have a little siesta between all the hectic fun or if you want to skip the public restrooms.
This is not only my best hotel experience within the Tokyo Disney Resort, this is one of the best hotel experiences I have had, period. From the great staff, clean and spacious room, the services offered, and the very close approximation to the DisneySea park, it is a no brainier to stay at the Tokyo DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta during your DisneySea adventure!
Keep in mind that this is my experience and your visit might...
Read moreprobably actually 4.5 stars. |We stayed 4 nites in March 2024. we felt fortunate to get the hotel room (released 90 days ahead) even though it was the most expensive (at least $100 -150 extra per nite) hotel of 5 hotels that we've stayed at in Tokyo. For comparison, we stayed in a 4 star big chain name on Mahaima (a Disney Resort partner on the monorail line last year for $220 less per nite. (this year the price at that same hotel was only $50 less per nite). so depending on how you look at it, we either got a good deal for an extra $50 per nite at Mira Costa or got a really GREAT deal last year.||We stayed on the Venetian side. for a 20 year old hotel, the rooms are nice, evoking the feel of staying in a well-kept up family villa. in keeping with the theme, the furniture, furnishings, decorations appear to be Italian ornate with the Disney theme, but more subtle. e.g. the cartography map framed on the wall has a "Strait of YENSID", featuring Queen Clarabelle. It took me 2 days to realize that the pattern on the border of the raised ceiling was merman Mickey holding a shell. Asian Modern, this is not. but the room is well maintained, the sign of wear being the velour love seat; the velour appears worn. HVAC, lights, fridge all worked fine. probably state of the art 20 years ago, the closet has a motion detector to turn on a light. ||classified as a "5 star" hotel, I'm not sure that it would be the equal of a 4 seasons, Ritz etc. although I've never stayed in one. Certainly every staff encounter was professional and friendly and helpful. compared to the 4 star hotels I have stayed at, I do have to say that the housekeeping at the Mira Costa was thorough, efficient.... and we always saw a vacuum cleaner next to the linen cart--which I can't say for the 4 star large chain hotels we've stayed at. however I think a 5 star hotel should have better than instant coffee in the room. maybe it's just me. ||So, was it worth an extra $50 a nite? yes. While you just can't "walk downstairs and enter Disney Sea and go back and forth", you do get a special ticket which entitles you to enter either park ~ 30 min. earlier than the general public. which translates into 1 main ride extra. does it save waiting time to enter the park(s)? Yes. is it worth it not to have to get in line for the resort monorail and then walk to your hotel at the end of the day? maybe--if you have no more energy at the end of a day walking and standing. ||Is it worth an extra $200 a nite? that depends. if you're a Disney superfan, maybe. there are souvenirs like a Mira Costa plastic cup (that says "take me home"), a reusable small tote bag available no where else, etc. On the other hand you could (if you get a reservation!) have lunch for 2 at Magellan's which would also be very special and good. ||staying at the Mira Costa you also accept theme park or 5 star hotel prices for breakfast and lunch....or take the monorail to the mall and back losing time. while there is a 7-11 at another Disney Resort hotel, there is no convenience store for onigiri, fast sandwiches, etc. at...
Read moreThis is a tough review to write. I try to always remain positive. Okay, we booked a one-night vacation package then had to wait to add on another night. We got the harbor view for our one night but could only snag a partial harbor view for night 2. We checked in around 11am and they told us we can check in again after 3 so we went to the park. After a long park day, we checked in again. It was around 6pm and we were hungry. There are 3 restaurants on site. 2 are a prefixe menu and something like 15,000 yen per person. The other is a buffet for 7400 per person. My daughter has ARFID and literally will eat french fries and white rice. I asked the counter if I could just buy a plate of fries and they politely informed me that all the reservations are booked for the evening and they could not accommodate my request....for a plate of fries...from the buffet. I tried to order room service and that was booked until the next morning too. I ended up hopping on the tram (that is not free) to find a McDonalds to buy fries. We made sure to eat dinner in the park before night 2....oh, night 2. The front desk said that sometimes rooms will open so to come back at 9pm to see if anyone cancelled. They did not so we had to pack our bags and "check out" by noon then we had to check in (again) after 3pm to our partial room view. I didn't take a photo but we could only see the tippy top of the volcano if we stood in a certain spot. I would not even call it a partial view. I really wish we had the option of adding on one night either before or after, to a vacation package. We lost 3 hours of hotel time (in the heat of the day) because we could not get the same room category. Rooms are nice, beds are comfy. Breakfast was included and was terrible. We were so glad we only booked it for one morning. Few choices and nothing tasted...
