By no means I am an expert nor an experienced foodie with Japanese cuisine, though I am quite the enjoyer of all types of food, I thought the food was alright. It wasn’t outstanding, but it wasn’t bad. The food did what it supposed to do, which was to be filling. If I could give half star reviews, I would give this place a 3.5. The breading was below average: oily, on the thicker side, and heavy. The meat was chewy and tough; could have used more tenderizing. I do not know if this style of food is usually served cold, but it was cold. Not freezing, but if you don’t like your meat cold, you can use the little griddle at the table to heat it up. The provided sauces were good. You get the option to customize the taste of your meat, or you can follow the recommended combinations. If the meal did not come with the sauces, I would have rated the restaurant lower. By USA standards, this would be pretty darn good, if you live anywhere else that isn’t LA area, NYC, or Austin/Houston. If this restaurant was in any of those previously listed area, it would do well enough. However, it would not be known as a good restaurant with high “five star” rating. Comparing to most USA chain restaurants, this is definitely better. I would not mind recommending this place to someone who likes meat and is looking for a decent meal, but I would by no means recommend it to a person who knows Japanese cuisine well and is looking for a good...
Read moreI recently visited Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu at Cubic Plaza Shin-Yokohama with high expectations, but I ended up a bit disappointed. While the restaurant boasts a modern vibe and appealing presentation, the beef simply didn’t measure up to my previous gyukatsu experiences—its texture and flavor fell short of the tender, juicy standard I’ve come to expect.
Adding to the letdown was the service. We had to actively ask for our drinks to be topped up, even though the staff passed by to refill drinks at another table. This lack of attentiveness detracted from the overall dining experience.
Overall, if you’re a gyukatsu enthusiast, you might still find some appeal in the stylish setting and presentation. However, be prepared for the possibility that the beef might not be as exceptional as in other establishments, and the service could use some...
Read moreThe food was beautifully presented. My family got the wagu steak, chuck steak, aged sirloin steak and a Kids meal. The steak meals came with miso, rice, curry cabbage and an onsen egg. On the side came Two sauces to dip the meat. Radish sauce and wasabi. The wasabi was very fresh - paired with the radish sauce was balancing. The kids meal came with fried shrimp, fried burger patty on a bed of cabbage, fries, sausage shaped like an octopus, rice, tarter sauce, pudding for dessert and they got to pick a toy from a really cool toy box that the workers brought to the table. You got to cook your own meat with a warmer and flame. The service was very polite and attentive. The atmosphere is very calming, playing jazz you can hardly hear the foot...
