Delicious food in a comfortable atmosphere with a good quantity of food at reasonable prices. The staff were polite and helpful, and accommodated a non-Japanese speaker like me with a menu in English. Service was prompt and the place was clean and well-lit.
Recommend checking their directions videos on their google-drive where their menus are hosted if you cannot read Japanese or ask for directions to the B1 Joinus Dining area. I only looked up the place when I got to Yokohama station from the airport. Was initially a bit lost after exiting the Yokohama station area as the only detailed wall maps I could find were in Japanese, and my phone's location tracker on Google maps was going haywire between floors. Their direction videos have Japanese captions and speeds through a lot of the walking but slows down to clearly highlight all the important waypoints. Went around the (underground) block twice before I found and followed their video directions straight to the place.
I was worried about finding a vegetarian/vegan place to accommodate my food habits and am glad I found a great place just for that on my first day in Japan. Tried the spicy-safe creamy tomato curry with tofu-katsu and a soy mango lassi, and will definitely be coming back to try out more of their variety over my short trip. While I went at an off-peak time today and got a table right away, I would definitely wait in line to enjoy...
Read moreI love meat. But due to the severe delay of trains due to today's earthquake, I chose to find a place that's still open (Most close at 9 or 10PM. They're open until 11PM) and it happens to be this 100% VEGAN shop. There were a few other options at the dining floor of Joinus, but since I'm on gluten free, I picked this. Surprisingly, their spice curry is better than the lifeless curries served in kissaten or Japanese coffee shops. There's an option to add tofu fried like tonkatsu which I heard was good, but it's not GF so I opted for roasted veggies (they use GF soy sauce/seasoning) and falafel (fried in same fryer, but I'm not sensitive to cross-contamination). The image of vegan is boring, less flavorful, and less filling, but this one was REALLY GOOD. I usually eat dessert but was too full. They have cheap plant-based ice cream and drinks; healthier but better priced than other options at the station. The male staff knows allergens and GF, and is very pleasant and diligent despite him manning the entire store (there's a kitchen staff) doing cashier work, taking orders, serving/cleaning up. If I'm in the area again, I would come back. Vegan and GF options aren't many in Japan (living here for almost a decade), so support this brave business, which I feel is genuinely concerned about serving...
