Sushizanmai — Restaurant in Yokohama

An absolutely delightful experience! The lady staff was so hospitable and helpful in everyway - from welcoming us to seating of our choice to assisting with our order-taking.

Initially, I wondered if it may be frowned upon to request less rice (rice sukuname de) but it was promptly facilitated 👌.

My Kasumi Sushi Platter (¥1628 including tax) states 1.5人前 meaning to serve 1.5 person (... but I'm not sharing 🤭). It comes with 12 sushi, 3 ganpyo (pickled gourd) mini maki rolls and a quintessential tamagoyaki (Japanese egg roll). Each piece tasted unique, rich and distinctively delicious. Even the horse mackerel (served with grated ginger and scallions) was refreshing with a clean aftertaste.

My foodie buddy ordered the Chirashi Donburi (also ¥1628 including tax) and it was as aesthetic as it was deletable, so much so he hmmm-ed and yummm-ed his way from the first grain to the last bite. The sashimi were thick, glossy and so buttery.

Both our sets came with ocha (Japanese green tea 🍵), chawanmushi (Japanese steamed egg with seafood) and miso soup.

Despite dining during lunch hour, we ate leisurely and gratefully without feeling rushed. The lady staff checked on us regularly to refill our tea.

Anyway, located just on the western side of Yokohama Station. Easy to find. There's paid parking nearby too.

Counter seats and tables were available. As with most popular sashimi/sushi restaurants, the atmosphere is lively with the chefs chatting customers.

Had several items. Really tasty. Fish was super fresh. Service was fast and pleasant.

Not the most budget-friendly but it is in prime location. Worth the slight premium so you don't wait...

I can't say for sure why, but the fatty tuna (Otoro) was extremely fatty there. Sushizanmai is a chain restaurant offering sushi 24/7 in the tokyo area, and they have an amazing price/quality ratio. English menus are available. They propose sets or à la carte sushi. A little packed and noisy usually, not the high class of traditional sushi restaurants. But so much better than the basic conveyor belt sushi for a price that is very reasonable (about USD 35 per person for a reasonable amount of food ). Highly...
