煮込みや笑福 — Restaurant in Yufu

My mother and I came to dine at the end of December. After the staff seated us, they didn't provide a menu, and we were left waiting at our table for over 5 minutes. Eventually, I borrowed a menu from the table next to us.

We ordered hotpot, but when it was served, they only provided spoons and no chopsticks (other tables eating hotpot had chopsticks). Seeing how busy the staff was and their apparent disinterest in attending to us, we didn't bother asking and struggled through the meal without chopsticks.🤕

On another note, the Korean girls at the table next to us also ordered hotpot. We both realized halfway through that rice needed to be ordered separately, not included, so we separately asked the staff for rice. They seemed completely unsurprised (like foreign visitors don't know rice needs to be ordered separately)...

Although the staff had a polite tone when taking our orders, serving, and during payment, their smiles vanished as soon as they turned away, giving the impression they weren't genuinely interested in hosting us🥲

Apart from us, the customers in the restaurant were all Korean. I don't know if the establishment doesn't like foreigners, but if you're a foreigner, I recommend dining elsewhere!

Despite the tasty hotpot, this was my worst dining...

I don't reccommend coming here at all. The only thing that's good is the gyoza, other than that the taste is normal, some are even bad. The only meat in this hot pot is pork fat, it makes the overall soup too oily. The okonomiyaki is super bland and soft. I have eaten a lot of okonomiyako, but this one just taste bad. The toriten is good though. Other than the taste, the waitress has an unfriendly attitude. Even though the restaurant did not have that many customer, she did not treats the customer well, the way she speaks and answer us sounds like she's annoyed all the time. We also ordered, udon to go with the hot pot, but the udon came the last, while hot pot came first. We already reminded the waitress about the udon half way through our dinner, but the waitress just said wait a moment. After we finished almost all our food, the udon came and no apologies from her or anything even though we finished all the food while having some of the hot pot left to wait for the udon. However, the woman from the kitchen serving us food was kind, and she's the one who checked our bill too. Overall, it was a bad experience. Stumbled on this place while looking for dinner. It's a decent sized restaurant seating about about 20 people. Their main focus appeared to be hot pot / Shabu Shabu and ended up getting their house special with pork. Overall taste was very good! The broth stood out to me the most having a strong miso flavor. The vegetables and pork were also all very good. I ended up spending just under 4000円 on the house Hotpot, extra pork, rice, and two plum wine (梅酒) drinks. Note, one drink is required per customer.
