I had initially left this place a 5-star review based on my first time experience and was really eager to come back again. This time, being my second time here, I was tremendously disappointed with the experience! I went on Sunday and this is how it went.
Firstly, I called to make a reservation for two and insisted we get seated inside, since it looked like it was gonna get cold outside. We got there 20 min earlier than the reservation time and got seated in the innermost room at a table for four. The waiter told us that we had to sit on the seats next to the wall since other diners would be seated in the other seats. We didn't like that and had to ask if he could at least separate the tables so we don't have to share or bother the other diners. He refused, saying that it would block the way and, instead, offered to move us to a different table. We were hesitant bc this new space was by the corner and dimly lit, and next to some old cabinets. We eventually moved, and there was a window behind my seat that constantly passed cold air, I was sure my food would instantly get cold, so we asked to move. We got seated at a different table that was by the glass door, within the same room. Our waiter didn't provide us with the menu or even try and explain the process. It's a good thing we already knew, having been there previously and also visited the Westlands branch. What was even the point of making a reservation if we were going to be seated like a walk-in?
Secondly, once we served the salads and were ready for the meat, our cards already turned green, the waiters with the meat would just pass us by! It's like we were invisible. We even had to stop one in his tracks to serve us. So as more of them would pass in the small room, we'd be the LAST to get served, and we were by the entrance of the glass door! The meat was already cold by the time it got to us. We wanted more chicken meat and sausages, but we only got served once for each and never saw them again until we were ready to leave.
Third, our waiter only stopped by once, at the beginning of our meal, to ask how we were fairing. We complained about not really enjoying as the waiters were passing by us, despite our cards being green. He said that if we needed anything, he would assist... and that was the last we saw of him. He kept being so busy and dedicated to the other tables, always moving around and passing us. I even asked a different waiter to get me the juice punch. This one forgot to relay my order, and I ended up getting to dessert while waiting. I reminded him a 2nd time, about 45 min later, and that's when he told our waiter that I wanted to make an order. When our waiter came, I'd changed my mind since we were almost done anyway, and so disappointed with the services that it was not worth it. Instead, we let him know about our disappointment. He did apologize.
Fourth, when we asked for the bill, the price had been increased, and when we asked about when it was changed, he said that this change was made last year in December. This sounded shady since I had been there for the first time barely 2 months ago, and then went to the Westlands branch one about 3 weeks prior. So we asked to talk to the manager/supervisor. He came by, and we told him about our horrible experience and for him to explain the bill. He told us that he did not realize that our waiter was overwhelmed (which was a bit ironic, seeing that there were 3 waiters in that small room) and then proceeded to let us know that the prices had been revised in June.
To summarize, we had such high expectations since my first time here was amazing (having sat by the table adjacent/on the other side of the glass door my first time) and also because having gone to the Westlands branch, the services were even better! So we expected that it was going to be the same level of service and experience, but this one left a very bitter taste in our mouth. I would not recommend it. It was a very, very horrible experience, and I do not see myself coming back to spend my money for such...
Read moreFogo Gaucho is a delightful dining haven located on the ground floor of the Galana building, strategically found along Galana Road, just off the bustling Argwings Kodhek Road in the vibrant Kilimani area. This was my inaugural experience of partaking in a rodizio, which is a style of service in Brazilian restaurants where a wide variety of meats are brought to the table, one after another, until you signal that you've had enough. The restaurant stands out with its exquisite decor, creating an inviting atmosphere from the moment you step through the doors, immediately captivating your senses.
We opted for the all-you-can-eat option, driven by a desire to fully experience what Fogo Gaucho had to offer, and I must say, I was not let down in the slightest. The culinary delights provided were nothing short of spectacular. The meal progression, starting from the tantalizing appetizers, moving to the flavorful main courses, and concluding with delectable desserts, was a culinary journey worth every moment. The highlight of the dining experience was undoubtedly the parade of meats. My personal favorites included succulent cuts of steak, tender sirloins, delectable lamb, and even the uniquely exotic crocodile meat, which was astonishingly soft and tender. The pork ribs were a perfect combination of savory and sweet, and although the shrimps were not to my preference due to their peculiar aroma, the fish dish was outstanding. Among the various meats, the lamb captivated my palate the most; it was so juicy, flavorful, and mouth-watering that I couldn't resist its allure. The continuous flow of meat was both comforting and overwhelming until the moment when enough was enough, and we waved the iconic "stop" sign. As a dessert enthusiast, I indulged my sweet tooth with the impressive assortment of treats offered at the end of our meal, delighting in the sugary finale. Accompanying drinks were available in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic varieties, and as a wine aficionado myself, I was thrilled with their extensive selection of wines to complement the sumptuous feast.
From the second we stepped foot into the establishment, the service was impeccable. We were received with generous smiles, indicative of the warm hospitality that the staff at Fogo Gaucho is renowned for. Having made a reservation, we were swiftly guided to our designated table, ensuring a smooth transition from anticipation to enjoyment. The ambiance was calm and inviting, embellished by soothing country music softly playing in the background, which enhanced our dining experience. The attentive waitstaff was dedicated to ensuring our comfort and satisfaction throughout the meal, making for a truly commendable service that deserves acclaim.
The restaurant's cleanliness was noteworthy, extending from the immaculate dining area to the spotless washrooms, ensuring guests are met with hygienic surroundings. Parking was readily available both inside and outside the venue, and the noticeable presence of security at the main entrance further added to the sense of safety and security for all patrons visiting the establishment.
I wholeheartedly advocate for Fogo Gaucho as a prime dining spot. It is a family-friendly establishment where you can bring your children; there's even a bouncing castle that promises fun and excitement as they mingle with other kids while adults enjoy their dining experiences, whether through savoring the delicious food or engaging in great conversation. Moreover, it's an ideal venue for business luncheons, meetings with colleagues, or intimate dates, providing both a professional and relaxed atmosphere. In conclusion, my first visit to Fogo Gaucho was nothing short of extraordinary, leaving me with cherished memories and a longing anticipation for my...
Read moreAs a tour operator I always explore restaurants and venues that we can use for our groups. After visiting Brazil last month, I was looking for a proper steakhouse in Nairobi.
Together with friends we decided to visit Fogo Gaucho in Kilimani. We felt welcome the second we entered the premises. As we were early, there was plenty of choices both inside and outside where to sit.
Our smiling waiter explained the concept. There was a sumptuous buffet inside with all kinds of salads and side dishes. Everything fresh and nice. The staff kept a watchful eye on the buffet and kept it clean. We asked for suggestions for wine, and the waiter recommended a good South African wine that should match the food. He did not suggest the most expensive as many do, but a mid range wine with a good price.
The price is very reasonable compared to similar places in Nairobi. The Brazilian concept is that the waiters bring you separate meats and cut it at the the table. It can feel a bit overwhelming with a constant stream of food. A smiling manager, Mr Julian Pereira had a full overview of what was going on everywhere. He came over to our table and explained smilingly that we had some small signs on the table. One side red, one side green. As long as the green side is up, they keep serving. Remember to turn it when you need a break.
Julian is from Bela Horizonte in Brazil and knows how this kind of barbecue should be done.
It is important to keep space in your stomach for the final dish. A barbecued pineapple rolled in cinnamon. Delicious. Only thing I would suggest for Fogo Gaucho is to serve this with vanilla ice cream.
We will definetly be back with our guests Rune, Destination Africa
Muito obrigado...
