Java House - Orbit Place — Restaurant in Nairobi

Overall a pretty disappointing experience here at Java. The main thing that impacted the score: the service. Things here really take a long time, despite there not being many customers. Most of the staff (of which there were plenty) seemed to spend most of their time chilling behind the counter talking to each other, and the speed of service from those who were actually working can be described as leisurely at best. On top of that, the friendliness and warmth towards the customers certainly leaves something to be desired. As I sat here, I couldn‘t shake the feeling that the paying guests were not much more than an afterthought to this business. I‘m usually a very relaxed customer who‘s easy to look after, but this place just didn‘t sit right with me.

The atmosphere was pretty nice, with plenty of shady seating provided outside in addition to indoor options. As for the food itself, there were very many options to choose from. It sort of felt like a „jack of all trades, master of none“ situation, as the quality of the food didn‘t blow me away either. Prices were alright though. My favourite from the whole experience was the coffee (which is to be expected since Java is a coffee brand).

For future reference, I‘ll return for a takeaway coffee, and skip the rest. It‘d be interesting to see if other Java lovations have similar issues, as this would point to low workforce motivation overall, perhaps because the company isn‘t treating their employees very well. Just...

I really love the coffee here but the staff should up their game. I went to grab a coffee to go and there were cockroaches all over the table and the staff could do was look at me and laugh and I’m like, there’s a cockroach where the sugar is for the coffee. Are you guys going to get rid of it ?? The lady just looks me and grabs a napkins and places it on top and doesn’t even see the cockroach sneak away while others are all over the place.
