Read moreThe restaurant, initially hyped by a YouTube video, turned out to be a complete letdown. Despite its attractive decor, the atmosphere was stifling due to the lack of air conditioning, leaving my family struggling to breathe comfortably. The suggestion to upgrade to VIP for air conditioning came with a ridiculous price tag, making it seem like a luxury just to have breathable air.
The seating arrangement was another issue, with the staff cramming six people onto two small tables meant for four. Despite pointing out the inconvenience, we received no apology or resolution, with basic amenities like table mats and napkins missing. Meanwhile, other tables seemed to receive preferential treatment.
The service was slow, with drinks only being comped for the first round. The wait for food was excruciatingly long, and when it arrived, the quality was disappointing. Dishes like fish and chips, seafood soup, and pasta were described as tasting below average, while even the sushi lacked essentials like soy sauce and wasabi. The only saving grace was the ribeye steak, but its small portion size didn't justify the hefty price tag.
To add insult to injury, the staff took their time bringing ice for drinks and even delayed bringing the receipt, conveniently forgetting to deduct the reservation fee. This experience left us feeling cheated and convinced we would never return to the establishment. Overall, the restaurant failed to deliver on its promises, offering subpar service and mediocre food at...
Read morePili Restaurant pleasantly surprised me and showcased Nairobi's burgeoning culinary scene. During my initial visit a week ago, I indulged in their T-bone steak, and the experience was impeccable, especially considering the restaurant's recent opening. From the warm welcome at the entrance to the attentive service, everything flowed seamlessly. The steak was cooked to perfection, earning it a spot on my top three list of best steaks.
Typically, I refrain from reviewing newly opened restaurants due to the uncertainty of their performance. However, my craving for steak led me back to Pili today. Although I intended to try a different cut, the server recommended sticking with the T-bone. Despite my initial delight, the steak arrived overcooked this time. I politely pointed out the error, and they promptly apologized and took it back to rectify.
Yet, I couldn't help but wonder if they would bring out a fresh steak, as it's impossible to reverse an overcooked one to my preferred medium-well. Unfortunately, they returned with the same steak. While still flavorful, it didn't quite match the excellence of my previous experience. Although the chef personally apologized, given the restaurant's price point, I expected better consistency. Despite this setback, I plan to give Pili another chance...
