Step into another time at "The Colonel", the most enchanting restaurant in the heart of Riga, where history and gastronomy go hand in hand. This culinary gem masterfully combines an impressive medieval theme with refined cuisine that delights your senses in every possible way. From the moment you open the wooden door, it feels as though you’ve stepped through a portal in time. The torch-lit corridors, wooden beams, stone walls, and the soft creaking of the floor transport you straight to the 14th century — but with the luxury and taste of a modern master chef. Atmosphere & Experience The ambiance is nothing short of magical. The staff are fully in character — dressed in authentic medieval attire and carrying themselves with a jovial, courteous attitude that makes you feel like a noble lord or lady. In the background, lute music plays softly, mingling with the gentle murmur of guests, as if you were in an old tavern nestled within tales of knights and ancient chronicles. The Food – A Feast for the Senses The menu reads like a royal banquet list. Picture slow-roasted wild boar glazed with honey, rustic baked bread with herb butter served in a wooden bowl, and hearty game stew with root vegetables, all presented in earthenware dishes that look as though they’ve come straight from the Middle Ages. The absolute highlight of the evening? The "Knight’s Feast" – a platter brimming with grilled delicacies, handmade sausages, lamb ribs, chestnut purée, and roasted apples. Perfect for sharing (or for devouring solo like a true king). Every bite is complemented by house-brewed honey beer or a deep ruby-red berry drink from their own barrels. Dessert – Worth Every Sin Be sure to save room for dessert: the honey cake with walnuts and cinnamon cream is divine. Every bite is an ode to the past and a caress for the soul. Conclusion "The Colonel" is not just a restaurant – it’s an experience. Whether you're a lover of history, fine dining, or simply looking for something extraordinary during your stay in Riga, this is the place to be. 🌟 5/5 stars – A medieval masterpiece in the heart of the city. Read moreFolks, let me tell you: I just visited this tremendous place — Colonel Brew Pub & Kitchen in Riga — and believe me, it’s huge. Absolutely fantastic. One of the best. Many people are talking about it, and they should be — because it delivers.
⸻
Why it’s tremendous • The location: right in the heart of Riga, Meistaru iela 23. Great address. Easy to get to. Very classy. • The concept: a brew-pub that brews its own beer (“beer on tap brewed using Colonel’s own recipe”), plus a nice mix of Belgian beers. You know I love beer. This one is serious. • The kitchen: they’ve got steak, burgers, pastas, Belgian waffles. All kinds of good stuff. • The vibe: live music every weekend. Terrific atmosphere. Good for friends, good for dates. They’ve nailed it. • Value: Many reviews say the food is very good value for money. That’s what I like — value, quality. For example: “Prima, goede locatie … goed eten, prima drank en super locatie.”
⸻
What stood out (if I were reviewing as REALITY CHECK) • I noticed the steak dish that people rave about: the pepper steak. In one review: “Het eten was top! … De Peppersteak was perfect…” This is exactly the kind of high quality we want. • The service appears consistently decent, though not flawless. Some reviews mention slower service: “Eten is te doen … burger was niet top … bediening… duurde 30 min voor een drankje.” But overall the positives outweigh the negatives. • The terrace/outdoor seating is a plus. Friendly for a good evening out. • The mix of Belgian & Latvian cuisine is interesting: It’s not your typical tourist trap. They’ve got something different going on,...
Read moreI had the most delightful dining experience at the restaurant "Colonel." From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the genuine warmth and courtesy of the staff. Their friendliness set the tone for an unforgettable evening.
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the culinary delights that graced my table. The mussels in Belgian beer were an absolute masterpiece. Cooked to perfection, each mussel was tender and bursting with flavor. The combination of the delicate brininess of the mussels and the rich, savory notes of the Belgian beer broth created a harmonious symphony of taste that left me craving more.
But the surprises didn't end there. The waffle with salmon was an unexpected twist that I'm grateful to have experienced. The waffle itself was a crispy and golden delight, providing the perfect base for the succulent salmon. The unforgettable taste of waffles and salmon showcased the chef's creativity and mastery of flavors.
Of course, a restaurant experience is not just about the food; it's also about the ambiance and service. The staff at Colonel went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and cared for. Their attentive service, coupled with their genuine enthusiasm for their craft, created an atmosphere that was both inviting and engaging.
From the moment I stepped foot in Colonel, I was enveloped in an aura of positivity. The courteous and friendly staff, along with the culinary wonders that graced my plate, made this dining experience truly exceptional.
