Rooms are not soundprooof. You can easily here from inside the room when people talk outside in the hallway, even if they are just speaking in normal voices.
It is 7degrees now here inside the room since the heater doesn’t work. We informed the staff and they kindly gave us another heater since they agree that the current heater was already at maximum heating without really doing anything.
The bed is right there when you opened the door, it’s literally right next to the door.
There are no tissue boxes offered. The towels look very old, no longer white and been used so many times.
Parking is at 20euro additional per day. We found another parking space at 3euro until 8am the next day and then 3euro additional after that but it’s 15min walk. There is only one staff and she has to go away all the time to open the gate so other cars can get inside the parking space. I feel bad for her because although she’s nice, she’s a one woman show who does everything. It feels like this hotel is trying to earn as much while keeping the costs so low. The other staff on the second day was lovely too. They are the only good thing about this old hotel.
They mark themselves as a 4-star hotel but it doesn’t seem to be true as it’s a very outdated hotel.
Old lamps next to bed, only for meant decoration and they don’t work at all. No telephone connected to the reception. Not even some drinking water offered like the usual “4-star” hotels. Fake flowers in the reception area.
They spray such strong room freshener it is very strong it seeps to inside the room. Some people are allergic to chemical scents but they don’t seem to know this and be considerate to...
Read moreWe spent a weekend trip to Riga here and it was a great choice. The Hotel is very central, it takes like 5 minutes to get to the most important places. The staff is very welcoming and helpful, everything worked out flawlessly, even when we had to check out at 6.a.m. we were greeted by a friendly employee!
The hotel itself is quite old, so it has that specific smell. It's not bad and I personally don't mind, I just think it's not everyone's cup of tea. Our room was clean and quiet, you can barely hear anything that happens outside of the room. Internet connection by the way works well. When we came back in the afternoon and stayed in our room to rest for a while they even called our room to make sure if they can send in the cleaning staff or not, which I found very accommodating!
The most pleasant surprise however was the breakfast: Not only were there a lot of different options to choose from in general, even as a vegan I could enjoy my breakfast! There were several kinds of fruit (apples, oranges, pears, even persimon!), some veggies and the black bread is to die for! Also, they make you coffee or tea of your choice and even offered freshly made lemon water. Of course, there are many non-vegan options, classic ones like sausages, egg, muesli/cornflakes, but also other stuff which you can see on the photos.
In general I can definitely recommend this hotel...
Read moreNot sure why this hotel is 4 stars - unfriendly service, the rooms are quite old, no real amenities in the hotel (even the restaurant is not open throughout the day), it is loud and uncomfortable. No value for money whatsoever, my advice would be to go elsewhere, for this price, you can certainly find a better hotel.
Negatives:
Our room (a superior) was not very comfortable at all - especially the bed
Most rooms look towards an inner courtyard - the courtyard is nice and a great place to sit down. However, this also makes it difficult to rest in your room as you can hear virtually everything that is happening in the courtyard. Also, keeping your window open is not a great idea, because all the cigarette smoke from the courtyard is coming in.
Staff are not very friendly (especially in the restaurant)
Breakfast is terrible - everything was cold and/ or dry
Expensive for what is being offered
Positives:
The only thing that is good about this hotel is its location - indeed, quite conveniently located in the Old Town of Riga, close to various...
