I DO NOT RECOMMEND! WE HAVE BEEN DECEIVED IN THIS RESTAURANT FOR MORE THAN 100 EUROS! We had dinner with a group of 10 people. At the end of the evening, we asked to split the bill for everyone separately, to which we were told that it would take them a lot of time and asked to pay the entire amount at once. The food bill was written by hand and the bill for alcoholic drinks was given to us simply on paper, where nothing was written clearly at all. We paid the amount of 598 euros and left because we were late for the concert. When we calculated the total amount of dinner in the morning, it differed from about 100 to 150 euros (we could not find out the exact amount even when we returned the next day back to the restaurant to chat with the owner) The owner of the establishment replied that he could not compensate us for anything, because he needed to deal with the waiter who served us, and said that he would answer during the day. Nobody answered us for 4 days. We wrote again, to which we were told that everything was correct in the bill and that they would not compensate us for anything. When talking on the spot, we asked to check the cameras and see, asked to make a normal bill so that we could check everything again, but the owner of the establishment refused to do this. He said that the waiter had been working for him for a very long time and he could not be mistaken. The restaurant does not have a cash system, all receipts, as we understand it, are written by hand. Be vigilant when visiting this restaurant in large groups! Very unpleasant experience and very unpleasant communication with the owner of the establishment! I'll try to attach photos of the invoice below and look how we got a check...
Read moreWhen I saw the reviews on Tripadvisor combined with the highest score I've ever seen for a restaurant with that many reviews on Google, I figured we had to check this place out. We arrived on a Friday night and were told there was a 30-minute wait but we decided to wait it out and are so glad we did.
We had the Liellopa Steiks and a pasta dish with sausage, peas, bacon, and some cheese...it was all absolutely incredible. The vegetables that came with the meat were some of the best I've ever had, and the Tiramisu was to die for. The white chocolate/blueberry cheesecake was also outstanding.
With all of that being said and the food being some of the best I've had anywhere, the service of both the owner/waiter and chef were even better. Due to having relatively picky eaters, both of my kids got the meat without the green peppercorn sauce, and the chef came out with an alternative he made for them which I've never had happen anywhere. You could tell this restaurant means a great deal to both of these individuals, and they treat the customers like royalty. The owner is a Latvian/Canadian, and talked a great deal with us while he hustled around the restaurant due to a staffing shortage.
I now know how they have a nearly perfect score across multiple social media services which is nearly impossible since you have some people who are just never happy and others who place 1-star reviews without ever even attending the restaurant...the nearly perfect score is well deserved. If you are in Riga, make sure to stop by Mamma Mia Mediterranean Restaurant and you will be...
Read moreFamily run restaurant. Lovely friendly co-owner serving. The Mediterranean fish soup was really home made with chunky pieces of fish, squid, prawns, and mussels and clams in their shells. This was accompanied by a small finger bowl with water and lemon to wash your fingers, and a bowl for the shells - excellent little thoughtful touches. Had one of the specials for the day: cacio e pepe with mussels. A twist on a Lazio and Roman dish. It was tasty but not typical. I eaten this in a Trastavere osteria famous for this dish and it is drier and allows rhe sharpness of the pecorino to come through with the earthy heat of the pepper. This dish had a mussel/fish broth making it "wet" for the dish but it seemed to work. A little saltiness from the broth added to the taste but unfortunately this combination overpowered the pecorino and defeated the point of the base which was cacio e pepe. Interesting experiment. The pecorino was also lumpy - something which makes this apparently simple dish difficult to make well. Still a great little restaurant with good food and service - highly...
