I needed to satisfy my nasi kandar cravings today so here I am at this outlet of the super famous Hameediyah Nasi Kandar from Penang. One can opt to park at the petrol station nearby or at the paid parking space next to the restaurant. The place offers an outdoor seating as well as an indoor one. As far as nasi kandar shops are concerned, this place is clean and cozy enough for dine ins. Typically there will be a queue of people lined up to place their orders for nasi kandar so do come early if you want to avoid that. We ordered 2 plates of nasi kandar with ayam goreng, telor asin, kubis and ayam bawang, signature kambing kurma as well as daging rendang. My favourite here was the ayam bawang. I liked the intense onion sauce in combination with good amount of sweetness and savoury flavors. I also enjoyed that the chicken was firstly fried before cooked with the bawang and this gave it a nice light crisp despite that it was saucy. Their signature kambing kurma was very rich in its gravy texture with the strong aroma of kurma assaulting your tastebuds...in a delectable way of course. Do note that this dish was pricey so don't be surprised when making payment. The meat was also soft and tender to every bite. The daging rendang was equally strong in its aromatics and its meat was very soft. It tasted good but it was not the best one I had thus far. As for the ayam goreng, I can taste the mix of rempah and the aroma was decent in my opinion. However, I would only select this again if only it was fresh out of the frying wok when I order. If you're a fan of Northern style nasi kandar, this famous NK probably wouldn't disappoint you. The curries were all intensely rich in aromatics and...

when i want to choose for my dish, the server seemed to “force” taking the expensive dish. I want a normal white rice, he forced to take biryani, for which i dont know what to pair for. So i asked him to change to white rice although the biryani was first put on my plate. He then forced me to take lamb shank and other dishes, not allowing me to think of my preferred choice.
When i told him dont pushed me for my selection, he made his face. So when my husband said to add more rice (earlier i asked for half portion), he show his face and even made a sound “hishh”, then he came with white rice only, so my husband asked to add kuah campur on the rice, again he made his face and the sound. So i directly told him dont make face, put a smile on your face instead.
We ordered for drink and the drink didnt arrived until we were fed up waiting - while i endured the spiciness with my nose droozing off. Called the waiters so many times and they avoided eye contact and didnt even bother to stop and ask us for drinks.
During payment time, when i complaint to the cashier that our drinks didnt come despite few attempts to call and ordered it, she didnt do anything. She just showed the amount and apologize to us for not having our drinks
The irony is that we were not seated outside, but inside the restaurant and in front of the cashier counter.
The taste of Nasi Kandar is good, but we experinced bad service from their staff. I would rather eat elsewhere with a better service. Hameediyah, please train your staff with a good mindset. If i could video the staff who made his face with sound “hishh” just now, it would have gone viral with netizen...
the place is beautiful. we had high expectations.
however, when we came, we were informed that all the roti & thosai sections were no longer available. so we opted for naan & tandoori instead. the waiters & waitresses seemed like they dont know what they’re supposed to do. it’s as if they’re not given designated jobs. the other customers seemed agitated waiting for their food. the family next to us finished their meal, and only then one of their mee goreng arrived. we waited for about 10minutes for drinks & 30minutes for food to arrive. teh tarik was decent, and the food was bland and looked sad. the cheese on my naan was just a few strands of grated cheese sprinkled on top of the naan. would it hurt to put a little more effort? it costed us RM 8 for tandoori, and RM 7 for garlic naan cheese. we would usually go to the stall (yes, just a stall but that’s the BEST naan you can find in ampang/KL area) in korea town, opposite of ampang point to get our naan cravings fixed - but it was closed tonight. we highly recommend the naan there. buttery garlicky naan & tender chicken all the way. and it’s cheaper too!
on a brighter note, the place is spotless & very clean. it would be sad to see hameediyah close down like the previous two mamak/eateries before it as the place is so aesthetically pleasing...
