I was visiting my brother & sister-in-law who live along Macalister Road and there were 10 of us who made purchases at your Macalsiter outlet. Total purchases almost rm150. Prior to this we were not aware of the shopping bag displayed at the corner. My complaint is poor customer service as your staff on duty did not bother to inform about purchases of rm120 entitled to the bag then we would have made one lump sum payment instead of separate receipts.
Your supervisor on duty Ellen even had the cheek to say that we did not ask before purchasing. Is that customer's fault? I know you have fabulous sales figures but sadly very lacking in customer service. In fact the last visit to your outlet was just 2 months ago and I bought one dozen large teelseed oil costing about rm200. So you see I am not just a one-time customer. Ellen also did not bother to give away one bag to please this disgruntled customer. Is it so costly for your management?
You can have busloads of customers but if you continue with this kind of service, word by mouth spread and as for me I will not hesitate to stop purchasing your products as Penang has much...
Read moreMy late grandmother has been buying Ghee Hiang biscuits for the family since I was a kid (and probably before that). So every time we go to Penang, we end up in one of their two shops to get the biscuits fresh. Unlike some of the other brands of similar biscuits, the way Ghee Hiang makes their biscuits is more moist and therefore less able to keep. So best the same day, keep for a few days or put it in the fridge (and warm up) if you want to keep it longer.
We bought a few boxes of biscuits (beh teh saw and tau sar pneah) and a few roll wrapped tau sar pneah for old times sake (since that was how they used to be wrapped in the past). Needless to say, we opted for the "eat it while it's fresh" philosophy and enjoyed quite a few biscuits the same afternoon, together with a cup of local coffee.
Definitely recommend coming here. There's a cafe on the premise too but we didn't try it. We just come to buy...
Read moreI grew up in Penang and my family has been loyal customer of Ghee Hiang bakery. Every time when a relative or relative from out of town visited us, we would come to the store (most often the one in Macalister Road) to pick up some pastries for ourselves and for them to bring back to share with their friends and relatives.
However, this last trip to this store has been a total let down. The Pastri Gula Merah (Hneoh Pneah, 香饼) that we bought is stale and hard as a rock. What is worse was that on the yellow removable sticker, the expiration date is January 5th (which indicates that it is still within the expiration date). Apparently the expiration date sticker has been tempered with.
I don't really know if this is a single incidence that happened only in this location, or its a general practice that permeates the entire chain of Ghee Hiang bakery. Nevertheless, it definitely stained the legacy of...
