Joies Sourdough Bakery Cafe — Restaurant in George Town

Contacted the team via ig regarding to new operating hours but wasn’t told there is reservation needed/available. Upon arriving, i were informed that the cafe was full house from reservation *4 empty tables of seat available in the cafe. We may be lucky as there was a table of customer are just sipping their coffee and about to leave, so we decided to wait for our turn instead. Moment later we were directed to our seating arrangement *not the table we are expecting. Honestly speaking we weren’t really happy with the arrangement as we are placed between the kitchen and the aisle where people pass by to the washroom. Furthermore the table beside us is just a pile of staff belongings and mess. We felt so uncomfortable and weird.

But since i purposely came here just to try your sourdough, i shall just close one eye and see how it goes. Gladly there was a customer who canceled their reservation last min, so your staff manage to rearrange our seat to somewhere more comfortable. He is very kind and friendly (guy with spec), so we decided go just let go the uncomfortable experiences we had previously.

Overall dining experience was okay, food and coffee are good. We enjoyed our pasta carbonara and definitely would revisit for that. But what i would suggest is that perhaps you can consider to serve the pasta with half or a slice of sourdough. I would enjoy dipping the bread with the sauce! The toast was soso, can...

I inquired about the cakes they had in their store as I was planning to purchase them for family's bday. They had 6 different flavored cakes so my original intention was to buy all 6 in different flavors. At first, the staff with bun informed me that I couldn't purchase 6 cakes as kept insisting that it would not be able to fit into the takeaway box provided. I was curious so I asked as to why and the reason given was that there was not enough space to store the cakes. The staff did not really give a clear answer other than there was "not enough space".

I asked the staff if it was possible to use decorate the cakes with my family's name and also insert the words 'happy birthday' on it. They agreed. But when the cakes arrived, not only did they fail to include my family's name on the cake as requested, the words 'happy birthday' was inverted and not facing the correct way! I'm astounded that they cannot even perform such a simple request. (they do charged takeaway fees)

Furthermore, the girl was not friendly when inquiring about the size of the takeaway box, and even instructed the other staff to 'check the size of the box' themselves rudely and impatiently in front of us. Overall ratings: Delicious vegan pasta, we ordered creamy pesto and tempeh bolognese pastas. RM22 & RM24- slightly higher price compared to other cafes. Lime Avocado tofu cheesecake- no taste of lime or avocado, priced at RM15 for very small portion. But presentation is good. Broccoli soup- creamy and hearty. Recommended! Minus 2 stars because of bad customer service and purchasing system- we asked for hardcopy menu, waitress said it’s yet to be printed. We had to scan QR code for menu but ordered and paid manually at the counter. We wanted to purchase sourdough from the cafe directly on a Friday afternoon(1:20pm) but was told it’s sold out, and need to be pre-ordered. Then we asked if we could made payment for sourdough directly at the counter since we already dined-in and come back to collect the next day, cashier told us to order online and specifically tell them the collection time.
