Kristal Seafood — Restaurant in George Town

We were really hoping that with all the positive reviews that this place would be a great place for seafood dinner.

The good: the lemongrass juice was good not great, our hotel's freely supplied lemongrass water was delicious. The fragrant eggplant was good.

The bad: Tom Yum (Yam) soup really had very little flavour. It's one of our favorite dishes and this just didn't compare well. There was very little contrasting flavours that Tom Yum is famous for providing. The shrimp were so over cooked they were like little biscuits, hard and flavorless. The waitress indicated that a small fish would be best for the two of us, and we ordered the sour fish. There was no lack of sour taste as the dish was primarily the sauce. We found one tiny piece that was maybe one ounce of fish in the whole plate. The rest was bone and fish head. The sour sauce was really not a good choice, as it overpowered the fish...

When I read through most of the comments that customers visited this restaurant, Kristal Seafood was all about ordering dishes and not from the stand alone chicken rice/plain rice with crispy roast /char siew/ roast duck stall. So this stall must be independent from the restaurant dishing out their specialties.....

We were having lunch trying out the crispy roast pork/ char siew/roast duck. We also ordered 2 pots of steamed soups. Overall, taste wise wasn't that outstanding, say compared with Heng Ong Huat just down the road of Pulau Tikus. The Heng Ong Huat Kek Seng chicken rice stall's char siew is really awesome. The price over at the Kristal was really expensive. If you are just eating this alone, i would recommend you to try out Kek...

3 people eating - 4 small dishes, 4 plates of rice - RM91. Food was alright, ordered deep fried squid, long beans minced pork, sizzling tofu, cheesy pork - owner's recommendation. The deep fried squid had a lot of batter around it but at least it wasn't very chewy. The long beans minced pork was excellent.
