My family visited the Oriental Kopi at Aeon Bukit Indah today and brought back a fantastic spread for dinner. We tried a variety of their signature dishes, and the quality across the board was impressive, making for a truly satisfying family meal.

I had the Biryani with Chicken Rendang. This was a wonderfully complete meal, coming with achar, peanuts with ikan bilis, and a side of curry sauce. While the rice itself was a lighter version and didn't have the heavy spice profile of a traditional Indian biryani, it was fragrant and flavourful in its own right and paired beautifully with the rich, tender chicken rendang. All the components worked together harmoniously.

My wife and mum both opted for the Dry Mee Siam with Fried Chicken. The standout here was definitely the sambal. It had a perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and a deep umami from the hae bee hiam (spicy dried shrimp) that was simply addictive. The fried chicken was also crispy and well-seasoned.

My sister's choice was the Fried Bee Hoon with Beef Rendang. The beef rendang was a hit—tender and flavourful. The bee hoon itself was well-cooked and tasty, a solid base for the rich rendang.

Overall, while not every single component was mind-blowingly spectacular, the execution of each dish was excellent. The flavours were robust, the ingredients were of high quality, and it provided a wonderful and convenient dinner that everyone enjoyed. This is a 5-star experience for delivering such a consistently delicious and satisfying meal. We will definitely be ordering...

Finally trying the famous Oriental Kopi. I went at 9am so there is no queue but already few tables of people were there. I waited around 15 minutes for all the food to arrive. The signature Oriental Kopi coffee was aromatic and quite strong, but maybe a little too buttery. Then the double kaya butter toast came. It was decent. And lastly, the signature nasi lemak with the fried chicken. At first glance, the poach egg was fancy and it looked great visually. The pandan rice was surprisingly nice. Subtle aroma of pandan and not overpowering. The other components like nuts and anchovies are nice. The sambal was sweet with slight hint of spiciness. All was decent. However, I find the chicken a little underwhelming. It was a little too firm and tough to my liking. I was expecting it to be juicy and crispy. The chicken was a little tough but I believe it was fresh as the firm meat and veins indicated it to be quite fresh. The toughness might be due to high sodium marination or overcooking it a little as they wanted to achieve the crispiness of the skin. I like how the chicken was marinated but the texture sort of ruined the experience due to the toughness. I took away 2 pieces of egg tart. The pastry was flaky and the egg custard was real thick. It was also pretty decent. For me, it was a little too pricey if you compared to other famous nasi lemak places that really performed well with the texture. Overall,...

Definitely overhyped. First time, but it will also be the last time to patronize such a restaurant with extremely bad customer service and mediocre-tasting food.

Oriental egg tarts - 4/10 nothing special. Really. Even the KFC version tasted way better.

Oriental polo bun - 1/10 over 6 million sold? Come on, my feet are laughing.

Nanyang curry fish balls - 0.5/10 You call this curry? Or should it be curry powder mixed with too much water and frozen, factory-mass-produced fish balls?

Curry cheong fun—0.0001/10. OMG, this is the worst. Pungent and disgusting fermented dark soy sauce taste filled the entire dish. Something must be very wrong with the kitchen. Did you even check the expiry date of the condiment used?

Cendol - 3/10 Tang yuan in black glutinous rice - 2/10

Atmosphere: 1/10 tables packed to each other in a 20cm distance. Good job. Yep, let’s pack as many one-time, non-suspecting patrons as possible while the hype still runs strong.

Service - 0.0000000001/10 Staff were seen chatting among themselves while numerous tables were waiting for their filled-in orders to be taken. Nice. 👍

Called 3 female waitresses who walked by to bring over the forks and spoons but were told rudely, “Wait!”. And then the wait goes on for the next 15 mins.

All in all, staff were apparently not trained and yet thrown into the drain to swim, bringing along their bad attitude to spice up their otherwise below...
