Was there years ago for breakfast. They have this odd practice of having their supplies delivered via the dining area. Imagine eating halfway and seeing a deliveryman walk pass your table with the eggs and bread. Totally unprofessional. And being one of the pioneers of the toast and kaya scene, it is shameful to see how little butter was used in their signature kaya butter toast. It matters a lot bcos back then this restaurant is supposed to represent the best of what Malaysia can offer. Now with Oriental Kopi coming to the scene, you noticed how the crowd has shifted over to there instead. Old Town reminds us of how a company was founded by a person with full of passion and wanting to serve the best food possible to eager patrons. But with the biz either being handed over to the next generation or sold to another company with just profits in mind, all goodwill the company enjoyed in the past is gone.
You dont have to believe me. Just visit either Aeon Bt Indah or Mid Valley South Quay. These 2 places have both Old Town and Oriental Kopi nearby each other. One has a long waiting queue whereas the other is empty or only gets customers who prefer not to queue for their food.

Read moreI recently visited Old Town White Coffee at Bukit Indah and tried their Nasi Lemak. The presentation was visually appealing — with a beautifully fried egg, crispy fried chicken, crunchy anchovies, peanuts, cucumber slices, and crackers. The iced coffee was also refreshing and satisfying.
However, I felt that there is room for improvement in two key areas:
Sambal – The sambal could use more depth and a better balance of spiciness and sweetness. It tasted a bit flat and lacked the rich, savory kick that makes nasi lemak sambal so iconic.
Rice – The rice was slightly underwhelming; it could be more aromatic and flavorful, ideally with a stronger coconut fragrance to enhance the overall dish.
The pastries and bread options were quite good, and I appreciated the variety offered.
Overall, it was a pleasant experience, but I do hope to see an improvement in the sambal and rice to make the Nasi Lemak...

But only when I’m in Malaysia, the land of good food!
It’s a great idea to have an early lunch at Old Town located in Aeon Mall at Tebrau City to avoid the crowd. We are rather bored by City Square and Mid Valley malls so we decided to give Aeon try.
Sadly, the mall has become another cookie cutter with the same retail brands that you can find anywhere. However, the food is so still so delish. My Assam Laksa comes piping hot in a thick, flavourful soup. The sardine, papaya slices, onions are so generous. Tqvm for keeping the food so good! 🇲🇾💗
