Dusk by Mok Mok — Restaurant in Johor

Launched by the same folks behind flower-themed hipster cafe Bloom by Mok Mok, 𝗗𝘂𝘀𝗸 𝗯𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗸 𝗠𝗼𝗸 follows in step with a similar menu of fusion dishes to be enjoyed within a bohemian-style environment. Diners can choose from a variety of seating arrangements, be it a bright one near to the glass windows, or more dimly lit with neon lights as the backdrop.

Offering a selection of mains of Western and Asian cultures, one that strikes out with its vibrant colours and portion size is the 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗴. The chicken leg comes roasted, tender and with a good amount of fat in its skin, albeit leaving more to be desired in marination and flavour. The slice of grilled pumpkin was a treat even for those who detest its unique taste and stench; the well barbecued style it is cooked in keeps one focused on its crispy exterior and creamy flesh. As for the corn cob, though buttered, was not really juicy and could use more seasoning. The salad was similarly a letdown; though well-seasoned with parmesan cheese, pomegranate seeds, cherry tomatoes and vinaigrette, the flavours fail to mash with the creamy sauce slathered on the chicken leg.

Reflecting its tropical theming, the 𝗞𝘂𝗺𝗼 𝗨𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗼 is a treat complete with mermaid tail-shaped chocolate and a good serving of fruits around stacked soft soufflé pancakes. The dish also comes with an experience; after removing the plastic sheet, a mascarpone cheese mousse flows down the pancake stack in a waterfall-like manner. But it doesn’t end there – slicing into the pancakes reveals thin layers of strawberry jam and lemon curd at its base. The fruity flavours take centre stage here, with a good mix of fresh strawberries, mango and kiwi chunks to complement the vanilla nuances of the pancakes.

Besides offering the typical cafe beverages like coffee and tea, this cafe prides in its juices, such as the 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴. Compared to the previous Mok Mok at Pelangi, we were disappointed that the ambience and menu offering was different. This was our first choice food venue after 2 years and we were extremely disappointed to discover that the salmon ramen and cream cheese tea were taken off the menu. These were our favourites and the cream cheese tea was the best we had tried. Unfortunately, these items are no longer available and the food we tried were mediocre. The only consolation was they still serve the onions fries but alas, they stopped providing the homemade sambal chili that used to come with it.

The coffee was also rather blend, different from what I used to have. Dusk at Mok Mok is different from the previous mok mok which we loved. Even the milkshake and mocha were served in small glasses which wasn’t value for money. It was disappointing that they had dropped at least 2 of our favourite items, and we doubt we would make this place our regular stopover whenever we visit JB in future. We were told to quickly visit mount Austin outlet if we still want the old menu items. The owners are going to revamp the menu there too. Pls pls relaunch the cream cheese tea and salmon ramen. Thanks!

UPDATE We went to their Bloom @Austin Hill on 25 June night. Upon arrival, we realised that they had changed their menu 2 days earlier and we were initially disappointed. However June was extremely helpful and offered to specially concoct the cream cheese tea to satisfy our cravings. We ordered total 6 that night. Our family was extremely grateful for his kind gesture. While we thought this would be the last time we were going to have Mok Mok’s cream cheese tea, June offered his contact and told us that we could place our order one day in advance and when we come over, he would have it available. This will be one good example of excellent customer service and this gives us a reason to be back at Mok Mok again. Happy...

The rich blend of coffee and chocolate flavors provided a comforting and velvety indulgence. Each sip was accompanied by the friendly and attentive service, ensuring that my dining experience was a true pleasure from start to finish. And let's not forget the delightful finale—the Deconstructed Rare Cheesecake. The creamy cheesecake, adorned with a tangy fruity compote, was a delicious treat that brought the meal to a delightful close.
