We used to be regular customers at one of our favourite Japanese Restaurants - Furusato at Taman Pelangi. Through a friend’s recommendation, this is now our top favourite Japanese Restaurant. The quality of food is one notch higher than Furusato and relatively pricier (in fact, just a tad pricier) but it is worth every penny spent! Almost all the food we ordered were palatable and delightful. Starting from the mushroom chawanmushi that melts in your mouth with subtle flavours that slowly linger in your tongue to the Dragon Rolls that give you “multi layer” taste from the tinge of saltiness in the Salmon Roe intertwined with the sweetness of Raw Salmon, plus the crispy texture of the grilled prawn that enhance the overall flavour. Just to mention two. Furthermore, the service crew are consistently attentive, friendly and helpful. The only thing to take note is that reservation is advisable to avoid disappointment especially during weekend since this is apparently a popular place. Will definitely return to explore more items in the menu!

If I say that Yaoki is considered the best Japanese restaurant in JB, I bet that not many of you will actually disagree with me. Located in the prime area of Taman Pelangi JB, i have never noticed this place even though I come to this area often. My friend was celebrating his birthday and brought us here for a giant feast in a private room. The setting is just like izakaya style, with few tatami-style private rooms. From Yakitori to grilled squid, ramen to Teppanyaki wagyu beef... Everything was executed to perfection. We even ordered two whole fish flew in directl from Japan - body was cut sashimi style while the heads were boiled in soup. Not cheap but it was real fresh! Needless to say, we had one heck of a dinner.. everyone went back home full to the brim.

Came here for lunch on a weekday at about 130pm. There wasn't a table for 6 ready so the staff arranged for us to sit at the sushi counter while they prepared the table. As I had 2 young kids, the waitress offered to take our orders first so the good could be prepared earlier. The set lunches were very value for money. Ordered 2 beef udon sets which came with a big onigiri and chawanmushi. My kids enjoyed the food. The unagi and saba set were very good too. The stir fried pork was flavourful and portions were pretty generous. The bbq pork skewers were also tasty. Total bill came up to about 50rm per pax which was very reasonable and value for money. Will return to try other dishes in the future. Thumbs up to the great service too

Disappointing experience. First time here. Food was alright, nothing fantastic. The way the food was served to us was extremely chaotic. Long breaks in between food. Staff came to our table, twice, to ask us what had been served and what was not. Never in my life i need to help the restaurant to keep track of this kind of things, and twice. Imagine I need to remind the restaurant oh I have ordered this and this. You don’t have a record ah? You don’t have a system to keep track of what has been served and what has not? The sight of staff running around the restaurant in a very chaotic manner was also very unsettling, and not professional. Seeing primary school student serving food in the restaurant is also not a good dining experience. At the end of the day, one dish was not served to us but one restaurant staff told her colleague that she was very sure it was served to us, right behind us. Loud and clear. So was the staff implying that we were lying about the food not served to us? This episode really shows that this restaurant with a fairly long history surprisingly has not figured out basic operations. Some people don’t mind eating in a chaotic restaurant with kids running around as long as food appeared on their table, but I will never...

Japanese restaurants often have 1 speciality dish and the rest are mediocre. Yaoki was a pleasant surprise. 1 son likes udon, one son likes omu rice, i like tonkatsu ramen and my wife likes chawanmushi. We all loved what we ordered. The chef and his crew is a jack of all trades. The chawanmushi is to die for. The texture is the best I have had in a while. Smooth like toufu. The ramen is simple but you can tell its been brewing and its not too rich; some ramen specialists make it super strong and sometimes too salty. This one was perfect. Can't comment on the udon, it is a simple dish, but the soup base was fantastic. The omu rice, while it does not pour out like those in hokkaido and osaka, is light and fluffy. The egg was slightly overcooked and did not have the half cooked, moist texture but the rice was so fragrant with the burnt in smell you only get from a...
